Cheap ND filters... worth it?

Heres the question, is it worth spending £40+ on an 67mm nd4 filter or will the cheaper ones at £10 do exactly the same job?

If you are spending out on L series glass, don't waste it by putting cheap filters on the front.

I got a cheap filter with a second hand lens I bought and there is a noticeable difference between that and my B&W.

Really? what stood out? more noise? or loss of sharpness?

Loss of colours and sharpness. I can't see the difference on half if the threads on POTN but even this one was blindingly obvious to me. You might be lucky and get decent quality for £10 but I would guess not.

i've had good results with P-type ND's and grads. Might be worth a look....

If you only have a cheap camera, a cheap lens will probably be fine, but on an L lens you might as well not be tight! lol
