Cheapest way of running an online shop

Mate of mine is thinking of setting up an online store. owns a balloon/party gift shop and wanting to do some online business. Is eBay one of the cheapest and easiest ways or is there abetter option out there?

eBay is by far the cheapest/easiest.

Fully e-commerce site will be thousands if he pays someone to do it.

E-Commerce can be doen for cheap, many web hosting facilities offer a back end control panel that has numerous of scripts ready to install - many of them being E-Commerce.

IE a Joomla front end with Vituemart.

Set up is no problem, easy and cheap. Then you've got to spend hundreds/thousands on advertising.

You can do it for peanuts if you can do the basics yourself. Open Cart is not bad for a free E-Commerce solution, although I would advise spending probably around £400 on better software. It all depends on what you need though. For a basic shop the Open Cart is more than good enough, but it is limited. I made my mates site using it - www.evobits.co.uk

A bit of an arse to setup. but otherwise seriously amazing.

Theyve also launched a mobile commerce solution for the the iphone.
