Right guys this may seem a completely stupid question, but I thought I'd check with you anyway.
I have recently got a 1998 1.2 8 valver. I want to check the oil level but the dipstick isn't like it is described in the manual, so I wanted to clarify.
If horizontal, the dipstick looks like this:
<==u======|_____|========
Now the notch closes to the end is a proper little cutout notch, and it has the word MIN just above it. However, there is no word MAX anywhere on the stick, and no obvious second notch.
The prolonged second cutout that I showed above is MUCH smaller in its depth (as in, less than a millimetre from the edge of the dipstick), and has no markings on it.
When I got the car, th oil level was about 6-7mm above the MIN word (about 10-12mm above the first notch).
What do I top up the oil to? (Would really like to know before I change it!)
Incidentally I've worked on hundreds of cars and have indeed built them from scratch, so I'm not totally incompetent
just cannot figure out this stupid system of dipstick marking.
Thanks,
Pavel
