cilo v6 owners

Hello all

last weekend i had the pleasure of being able to test drive a mk1 cilo V6 priced a 16k on a 02 plate with 20000 on the clock.

any mk1 owners on here able to fill me in on any info about the car or any common faults they know of. any info will be helpful i can see myself buying one v soon

I had one for two years. Really cant think of any common faults.

If you enjoy the car ( drive it, not just polish it ) you will need new tyres to give the best grip at all times.

Its a stone chip magnet.

People stare at you a lot ( not good if your shy )

Only twenty point turns - You must of had the quick-rack version!

Other stuff...

30mpg on the motorway, 24-26 mpg on an A-Road, dont ask about mpg on a track!

In the case of mine oil only ever needs topping up at the standard 12k services.

Front pads lasted 24k miles (including a number of trackdays) - dont buy Renault go for Ferodo - cheaper and better. Rear pads lasted 30k miles.

Rear tyres are lasting between 7 and 9k - you may want to use Pirelli P Zero Rossos - for me they were cheaper and better than the Pilot Sports (run them at +5% pressure if you want).

Consider replacing the Renault rear exhaust box - it rots really quickly. Also Pipercross Viper IK is worth having - neither will give you magical +20bhp gains but they do make the car sound even better.

There are more tuning parts/knowledge available now that they have been around but it will cost money to do it properly.

i bought my phase 2 yester day .. drove it home and the intake pod ripped off ... got a quote from renault ... £834 .. yes £834 for a small plastic cover !! needless to say i fell off my chair, then promptly phone renault for a warranty claim !!

Well as I expect you know I have had mine since December 02. Within the first two weeks the battery was U.S. This was over the Christmas period and I was on stand by so purchased one from Halfords as they were open where as the Dealer had shut up shop.

The car had been supplied with continental head lights, they dipped to the wrong side of the road. Work covered under warranty.

Going up to Peterborough had miss fire, that was on the Monday morning, arranged to take car into Dealer Thursday and at the smae time fuel mass flow computor had stopped working.

Dealer replaced one coil and a spark plug now all O.K.

Ordered up new mass flow fuel computor, this has now been installed and works fine now. Again under warranty.

All services have been covered by Renault Dealers, first one I fell out with as he put fully synthetic oil at a cost of £11.65 per litre and put in over 6.5 litres.

I now use another one down the road and he has never been a problem. Courtesey car etc, but as per normal a bit expensive.

The services have averaged about £210 each servive over this period.

Back tyres every 12k, front tyres every 24K, used Michelene up to now, tyring a set of Toyos now, road holding seems better and quieter. Not sure abot the wear at present.

Brake pads still O.K. but will need some in the near future.

No oil used between services.

Over the 40K have averaged 30m.p.g. most miles I tend to go M1, M25, A1 then across country etc. Loads of cameras so you have to be carefull.

Car is low and have had to replace front rubber air dam about £120.

Also going up and down motor ways both fog lights have had to be replaced.

Wheels are quite vunerable due to size and restricted turning circle. I now have a spare set for when I sell.

Being silver cleans up and looks the dogs. The number of people that speak to you is amazing, from young to the very old.

Other than that above nothing to tell.

i really enjoyed the test drive the V6 engine sounds great from behind your head, only slightly quicker than my ctr but still fast, this one was silver i think 90% are ? its a very rare car only ever seen 2 on the roads and 1 new shape.30 mpg on a motorway and 24-26 on a A sounds good didnt think it would be that good.

just wanted to check if there were any prob with the cars engine, gearbox etc

just need to find a mint low mileage one now NOT EASY

I have had two problems with mine, all done via warrenty though, These where:

1: Dead battery, didnt charge up and went flat every three days!!!! Changed under warrenty no problem

2: 5th Cyclinder was bk fireing (sp), And the computer inside the car was going crazy!!!! Renault got the part in the next day and fixed it.... Yet again under warrenty

This all occured around 4 - 5 thousand mile mark

And like all mk1 owners, orderd a new front rubber air dam bit, and not so long ago had the front bumper sprayed due to stone chips!!!!

But great car, fully recomend one!

Hi, just stumbled over this forum after trying to get some info from the Renaultsport forum... I now realise the error of my ways

Im trying to find a test drive at the moment and havent had much luck so far, but assuming I manage this Im really interested in chopping in my S2000 for a Clio V6 (other option is a 350z, but we wont go there for now).

Can you v6 owners give me some reassurance on the running costs?? I saw one post on the renaultsport forum suggesting that a set of pads all around were £400! On the S2000 they are about £70 front and £50 rear..

p.s if anyone knows of a dealer in the Midlands who has a 255 V6 available for test drive Id love to know as I the nearest I know of at the moment is in Stoke.

Only had the one prob with mine so far and that was gearbox problem.



Wouldnt select 2nd gear currently in getting new gearbox under warranty!

Welcome to the Forum mate, just a tip... when (if) u decide to buy a 255 dont buy at a Renault Dealers.. get it online! Itll save u a fair old sum.

Ring your nearest dealer, and tellem u want a test drive.. and they should be able to fix a date and get one in for u to throw around a bit.

the engine and box are apparently strong, although ive had a few probs with my gbox too, but ignore that as it is very rare.

i do suggest getting one with a warranty. if its an early one and almost 3 years old, then get the warranty extended. ive been quoted £498 for an extra year which is worthwhile for the re-assurance.

check out the V6 on ebay, my mates car with only 5100 miles! he wants £16500.

Ring your nearest dealer, and tellem u want a test drive.. and they should be able to fix a date and get one in for u to throw around a bit.

the dealer in middlesbrough has a blue 255 in the showroom .. when i asked for a test drive he said yes but had to sort a deal out first .. then subject to test drive the deal would go ahead ! as this one has 40 miles on it

im damm sure the bloke there said that they were the same pad as the leon cupra R .. i paid 85 for a set when i owned one

Rear pads are gonna last for 35-40k miles so not too bothered about that



no g/box probs as yet but car is going in on monday for engine removal due to dodgy clutch .. (slips under heavy acceleration)

Hi thanks for the info guys

I tried the above.. two local dealers, both said "we dont have one in group, sorry" One suggested I try Cardiff!

Trying through our company fleet scheme resulted in my being offered a test drive so long as I paid the £250 delivery fee to get the car to a local dealer.. WTF I think not thankyou.

So still waiting for Renault uk to get back to me now. Ill try a big dealer in London next I think.

Those pads range from £37 -> £130 exc vat though.. Ill keep £400 as an estimate. Bit more than the S2000 at £120 inc vat.. mind you, does that £400 include labour or is it relatively straightforward to do them yourself?

reno london have a blue mk2 is stock, but i will be £24k + id imagine. forget the pad cost! dont let that stop you buying one of the best, most unique cars ever made!

and, you canc do ithe pads yourself, piece of piss, or pay a friendly trustworthy mechanic to do it. reno are a rip off.

i kicked off at renault UK customer service, they pointed out that they were nothing to do with renault warranty .. and seeing they regard the V6 as their premier model they said they will take a look at it and prob pay for it .. just to shut me up!! works for me !!
