Claiming back on the warranty

  Dirty E91
Has anyone fitted or had a part fitted by non renault mechanic and claimed back the cost of the part back on your warranty?

Any thoughts appreciated.

If the mechanic that did the work was part of a reputable garage that carry out warranty work, you should not have been charged and the garage themselves should charge Renault for the work carried out.

Note: The warranty work has to be carried out to Renault standards. In some cases Renault parts also have to be used., otherwise your warranty could become void.

It's an authentic Renault part but wasn't fitted by a Renault Mechanic, was fitted by GDI during a service.

Renualt are giving me the run around about claiming the cost of the part back.

As I understand it, all warranty work must be carried out by an authorised dealer/franchise.

If I'd been able to have ot done at Renualt then i would have, got a call during my 36K service that the AUX belt tensioner was damaged, they had a spare so I thought better safe than sorry!

Spoken to Renault CS, I have to write to them and they will "consider" it.

You can get you car serviced and have any warranty work carried out by a garage that is authorised to do such work. They don't have to be a main dealer. I got my service done at my local garage. The handbook tells you what has to be done on each service and what bits to use (oils etc) and as long as the garage carries this out to the letter and stamps your book it is totally covered. I think with warranty work the same applies unless the dealer has actually stated otherwise, in which case you could have abit of a problem getting the money back, but in saying that, if the car was in having a service and a faulty part was discovered you can hardly be expected to pick up your car and drive to them, especially due to the part in question here.

Well work was done at GDI, VAT regsistered and all parts used are genuine Renault parts, guess I just have to wait to heat back from Renault themselves.

Yes it does sound like that, but if you get no joy with them, get the OFT involved (officer Of Fair Trading), he will then tell you that the part was not fit for its intended use and therefore should be replaced, and the fact you had no choice to get it done where you did has no relevance. Afterall, its not as if you took it to a back street bodge artist is it?

Renault will say no its to stop garages doing work on cars which never needed the work doing as they may be a bit short etc.

Renault will pay for the parts though.

in the past when parts needed replacing renault have always covered the parts only.... never had a problem in about 6 yrs...

however some dealerships are under pressure to get their warrenty figures down...
