Claying paintwork?

Im thinking about Claying my car before FCS what steps and how do you do it as iv never tried not sure if this correct but do you roll the putty into palm size then spray the car with a detailing spray rub the car until smooth keep spraying detailing to keep the car moist. not sure if its correct but can some one give me advice cheers.
