Clicking noise when wheel turns (video inside)

I've only noticed this when I turn into work. It's a sharp left. Any other time and it's fine. However I jacked the car up yesterday and it does it whist there was no load on the wheel.

It sounds like spokey dokies you used to have on your bike as a kid. (Or a playing card if you didn't have the real deal!)

Anyway, joking aside, what is it?

I was thinking either driveshaft or CV joint.

Unfortunately I don't really know what it is. Could be gearbox, different, etc.

That's why I took the video rather than trying to explain. Hopefully someone clarify.

Yes. It drives normally as it should. It only does it on one turn on my whole commute (20+ miles) and we drove it yesterday quite far with no issues. I only noticed this noise yesterday with the wheels being straight when I jacked it up to clean the wheels. Other than that it's fine apart from this one tight bend.

  dan's cast offs.
what end of shaft does it sound like it's coming from? imagine you should be able to find what it is easy enough, just no idea from the video where it's coming from.

In the video the clicking sounds closer to the gearbox than where the wheel bearing is to me?

If thats the case it *could* be what I experienced, the teeth on the drivers drive shaft sleeve had worn away, I had a buzzing sound changing gear but I still had drive, I thought it was the gearbox but when I got the driveshafts out I eventually saw the sleeves teeth had worn away, when they did completely I lost drive.

Hopefully its something simpler for you.

  Clio, RX8.
Normally the CV joint thats away when you get that when turning mate.
Jack the front of the car up and start wherever you think the noise is coming from, engine off and grab the wheel at 3oclock/9oclock, pull it hard lock and then while still forcing it into hard lock turn it back and forwards a bit. You'll be able to feel (and possibly hear) which side it is.

but ive just seen the video and its unusual with the wheels straight unless the bearings are completely knackered.

It sounds like an outer cv.
An inner doesn't change direction like the outer. It will probably get worse as you use it more.
I'd do both as they are probably of similar age.
Not sure if you can just get outer cv's though!

You can definitely replace just the cv joint for the outer, not sure about the inner.

Think for an aftermarket joint it's about £30 so if an aftermarket driveshaft is £50 delivered it may be easier to do that as you'll have to get the driveshaft out and in a vice to replace just the joint anyway.

Found them, cheers. What's the difference between the £35 and £50 ones? Listed as the same apart from a little code on the description.

Yeah I did that mate.

I need drivers side, so I assume FR RH is Front Right, Right hand drive. I'll bell them tomorrow. This is what I meant..

In my OP I think it was slightly in gear making that noise. I drove it 20miles and jacked it up again and no noise.

However to do get that clicking noise on hard left.
