Clio 1.2 16v Lowering Question

All,

I am considering lowering my 1.2 16v to improve the handling a bit, and improve the driving stance.

What would be the upgrade to carry out, would a spring change surfice, or would a complete suspension kit be preferable to improve the dampers.

I wanna try and avoid spending too much, and preferably carry out the work myself.

ive got the apex -60mm uprated springs n shocks all round, cost a fair bit, handling is great but dont count on keeping your fillings for too long

That looks smart, was that a 1.2 16v from start then? You have the sport bumpers etc so guessing they were an upgrade as well...

Also, those wheels, are they the stock 16" on the 03 onwards model? Sadly i've only got the 15" previous 5 spokes, although think the upgrade would be good.

You say you got coilovers? this meaning?!! Just the springs? and what mm lower?

And finally, how hard is it to carry out the work myself????

ive got the -60mm apex kit like loads of people here who cant afford coilovers lol cost me £280 i think from K-Tec but i hear 2modified.com does them cheaper

handing is brilliant its hilarious watching faster cars trying to catch you in the corners and the look on people faces when you go round a roundabout on 3 wheels

Always been a 1.2 and stil is, fitted bumpers, skirts, spoiler myself, ther 16inch 172 wheels, coilovers are adjustable dampers u can either have it on its arse or to a height you feel comfortable with! your able to put them on but wud have to get tracking and camber sorted by a specialist.

Basically get FK Coilovers which will lower up to 80mm. It will look and feel like a totally different car.

What about lowering it with just 35mm springs? Eibachs or Apexs for example.

Would the handling improve with just a small lowering of 35mm?

What do you define as handling? Any lowering will increase corning potential due to lower C of G and more camber, but thats not alwasy a good definaition of handling.

Well ok, i mean reduction of body roll and corning capabilities.

I want it to stick a bit more solid to the road and feel more aggressive for corners etc.

I aint too keen on lowering 60mm with only springs, and i think this will create too much force on the existing dampers, so i was thinking 35-40mm dependent on opinions.

Has anyone got any pictures of a clio with 35-40mm lowering?

Sadly, coilovers and £400 odd + are over budget.

How big an effect has this kit had on the comfort of the car? Was thinking of getting this kit soon but I dont want my teeth rattled out

apex 40mm kit = beautifully composed and fantastically responsive!! Worth every one of its pounds!! and its very very worth gettin the kit as the dampers make all the difference!
