clio 1.4 dodgy temperture gauge

right guys unfortunaly I am back to driving my old clio which is a 1.4 on a 2003 plate as my 182 was write off last Monday by a bmw 1 series

my temperature gauge seems to have a mind of its own if I let the car sit there and tick over its gradually gets up to half way but if I drive it straight away it take about 25 minutes to get up and starts moving all around between the bottom and half way any was just wondering if anyone know if this would be the coolant temp or the thermostat?

Sounds like thermostat to me.

mine did the same thing intermittently, would flutter all over the place, i just cleaned the temp sensor and gave it a good wiggle, been fine ever since
