Clio 1.4 S - Power Dip

OJM

  Renault Clio 1.4 S (2000)
Hi all,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with a problem I'm having on my Clio 1.4 S (2000)...

For a while now I've noticed a small 'dip' in power whilst accelerating. This doesn't happen all the time, and can't quite put my finger on when it does it (ie, hot, cold etc). The dip is as if something's not quite getting through, and then does, and the power's back.

I've had the electrics checked out by a garage, and they said nothing's wrong in that area.

I've also double checked my air filter etc, and replaced it with a K&N induction kit, to see if that helps, but it doesn't.

Now I was speaking to my uncle, who had the same problem an age ago, with his first car - Ford Fiesta. He spent a lot on trying to find the problem, and in the end found it was some kind of sensor which was dirty - once cleaned, the dip had dissappeared. Unfortunately I forget what the name of the sensor was.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem, and if so, or if you're aware of the sensor in question, do you have any instructions on where to find it, and how to clean it?

Many thanks in advance.

Oli

Could be any number of sensors you realy need to find out when it happens check the thottle body for dirt though

Cheers - what would be the best way to clean the throttle body? I assume when you mean check for dirt, you mean the inside of it?

I don't want to start cleaning away without knowing the do's and don't's.

I think my uncle mentioned the mass airflow sensor, if that's any help.

I don't know much about engines, so forgive me for my ignorance...

Thanks for your help!

Best take it to a garage if your that unsure basically just take the intake pipe off anc use some carb cleaner.

Coolant temp sesnor? Leak at the inlet manifold (MAP sensor)?
Have you had it plugged into a diagnostic, CLIP etc?

Yeah, when I say they tested the electrics, I meant plugged into a diag system (local garage, not Renault).

Trouble is I don't want to spend a fortune finding out what the problem is, as it's not something which makes the car undriveable etc - the diag cost about £80, for them to say nothing's wrong.

I've read up on cleaning the throttle body, so think I'll give that a try. If anyone has any other suggestions of what to check / clean, that would be appreciated.

Are any of the sensors accessible at all? Ie, to check for dirt / dust / grime?

All of them are accessable but the coolant sensor will piss water out, lol

Does anyone have a diagram of where they are, and how to clean them etc?
