clio 1.6 16v or a saxo vts

The VTS will be quicker than the 1.6 Clio, however the GTI is quicker than the VTS by about 8 bhp..

lol where did you hear that?

They have identical engines and weight near enough the same bar a few KGs :S

more BHP doesnt make for a faster car ..... hence why a 120bhp VTS can gives cars with 50bhp more a run for their money.

Its all about power to weight

VTS for me. Always liked them. Shame the insurance group is too high for what it is.

Exactly, mechanically the same. Makes me laugh. I'd take the VTS over the GTI if it was my money. Prefer the look of the saxo * i dont to my knowledge wear baseball caps and like fibreglass bodykits

Yea i mean for the perfomance its a cheap little car.

It seems that alot of the 172/182 owners on here came from a VTS or GTI.

I had a guy with a BMW 316 at work taking the piss untill i took him for a quick spin..... soon wiped the smile of his face.

I have a VTS no question if i needed to free up some £££££££ Love them :)

Edit, grp 14..... hmmmm same as my old punto turbo. They were pretty even in standard trim.

if you want speed get the vts. I prefer the GTI though, handle miles better, my gti used to be a bit quicker than the vts

for me the vts has poo interior and i don't like the look of them much, not very well put together, but thats just me personal taste

Just to have a gti, then sold it and bought a vts, then moved onto its bigger brother the Xsara vts and now onto a 182 cup

GTI/VTS is a immense car tbh for the cash you pay. Power to weight ratio is unbelieveable to, the amount of bigger engines cars i have played with is unreal

Handling is brillaint to. Mr Clarkson rated the GTI has one of the best handling cars of all time

Saxo was a bit newer and a bit nicer to drive tbh.

Xsara was quick in straight line terrible in the corners, awesome induction noise

182 cup - One word immense!!

  Clio 182 & Saxo VTR
Some people in this thread if they had any idea about the Saxo or Clio would of stopped posting a while ago. Its nice to see some people have some common sense.

It seems the sensible choice for vtr/s owners is a 1*2 when finding a next car which i can understand, ive done it. :p

In regards to a 1.6 clio, thats vtr pace, not vts, nowhere near the mark. Build quality is the same as a clio perhaps better in certain trim levels and reliability of the vts is fantastic, the 16v engine is bullet proof with the right service at the right time.

The vts as mentioned does come with a couple of niggles, insurance group is very high and the fact its not a very safe car.

My advice, get a 106 gti, roll cage and cams and you have everything a 172 has to offer but a packet saved.

^Many 106's with Xenons/Climate/AC/ESP/TC is there? :)

Oh and the pedal layout is dire, even with me being only size 9.

Depending on the type of clio you buy, neither does that?:rasp:

Id also find it very had to try and justify spending a potential £4k for those reason alone although ill accept the clio does have its luxurys but when buying a "sport trim" version of a car its the performance on the black stuff which is the most significant priority for most people and that is mainly what my previous post was refering to. :)

also the saxo seats only recline a liuttle bit (w**k)
the dash is very small but i dont mind
always on styeriods when standards

but they are fast cars the insurance is not a problem on either as i said before.
i might go for the clio as it does have vvti and with coilovers and the turinis in a grey that i have stashed away with tints and colour coding i think it will look sleek
the clio is pearlescent silver and the saxo is plain silver

so what you think

Think'll take the Clio.

Oh and im size 11 and yes the saxo pedals are small but once you get use to it, you prefer it alot more. The clio pedals are very similar too, just slightly wider.

There you then, clio is for you, because you dont have the right shoes.

Who would of thought a decision to buy a car would come down to shoes. :D

I owned a VTS for for 6 years and it was a cracking little car, handled like a go cart, used to upset a lot of supposedly faster cars, and was completely reliable. Granted they have got a bit of a bad reputation as chavmobiles, it was put together like an airfix model and rattled like a be-atch but then my Cup isnt exactly rattle free either!
I havent driven the 1.6 16v clio so i guess im a little biased but i would say go for the VTS - you will love it!
Oh and my ex had a Fiesta Zetec S and that would absolutely dick on any 1.2

  porsche 944 - 80's ftw!
Ive just sold my 172 cup and what did i replace it with when i wanted something cheaper? (much cheaper!!!)

X plate saxo vts, nuff said.

Or put in a cage and let safety not be an issue?

How does a ROLL cage save you in a front end crash?

It might be a magic roll cage, like those nice shiny ones you can buy from from the Demon Tweaks counter at your friendly local Halfrauds store?

Just out of interest, how many people buy a "hot hatch" based on its NCAP safety rating? It might just be me, but I never even gave it a thought really
