clio 1.6 16v

1.6 is 110bhp so no slouch but there ins group 9 or 10 then 1.4 16v is 98bhp cheaper and insrance group 5 or 6 , both are pretty rare and both new are not much cheaper than a sport

Ive got a 1.6 and its quick enough for me. I tried a 1.4 when I was getting it and I felt it was a lot slower and seemed to need much higher revs and so noisier on the motorway.

Be wary of insurance groups though, there seem to be a few different ones quoted around, from 8 to 12 and you can guess which group insurance companies put it in!

Ive got a Clio 1.6 16V on a 54 plate. As it is my first car since passing my driving test last year, I find that it has enough grunt at 110bhp for me. Although people more often than not want more power anyway ;).

I really dont do a lot of miles (probably 66-70 miles a week) and I only need to fill the tank every 3/4 weeks. The reason I went for the 1.6 in the first place was because I think they seem to be rarer. I seem to see more Clio 1.2 16vs, 172/182 and 1.4 16vs than the 1.6s (in Sheffield anyway, + the fact that I have had my car since last October I have only seen one other 1.6 16v Clio).

If insurance is important to you than I would propably get the 1.4 16v. as the 1.6 16v is insurance group 8. Insurance is killing me at the mo :(, its costing me at the age of 22 around £1650 fully comp (although thats because I only passed my test last year).

well i can probably go upto about insurance group 12 so a 1.6 should be fine, i had my heart set on a 172 but i dont think il be able to afford the running costs. i really fancy a clio but it has to be quite nippy and i didnt even know there was a 1.6 clio available until recently. thanks for the help guys tho. what kit do you get on the 1.6? eg, air con?

  Polo + Micra

yeah my 1.6 is classed as a group 10.

you get quiet a bit of kit as standard (air con, alarm etc)but i wish i had gone for xenons as an extra

Depends mate.

I got as extras Xenons, Climate Control, Uprated sound system (same as Clio 182) & Electric Sunroof.

Yeah the 1.6 is a nice motor.
I got mine about a year ago for 4k and its been brill.
Some of the specs (prolly missed some)

Leccy windows, sunroof and mirrors.
Alarm, immob and central locking.
PAS
ABS
Alloy Wheels
Sports suspension
Sports seats, with adjustable lumber support (some are half leather interior).
6 CD Changer.
Steering wheel radio controls.

Like the others have said its 110BHP, 0-60 in about 9 secs and pulls easily to 100.

MPG i get about 33 thats mainly short journeys, although on the motorway can easily get 40mpg.

i didnt get xenons but i did get climate control. my 1.6 is pretty good actually, the 110bhp puts u in a fairly respectable postion, u take vtrs but not vtss. generally i have been very happy with the engine size, perhaps i want more power now but then im sure ill always be like that. been in a few 1.4s and the difference is bigger than ud think honestly.

best of luck joining the 1.6 crew. we are the rarest model around so u shud feel quite special out there on the roads ;)
