clio 1.6`s

Im hoping to sell my baby clio 1.2 (1999) come the summer and get a clio of the same age roughly, only a 1.6. Ive been looking up insurance, but i cant understand why it varies soo much for different clio 1.6s. For example, insurance for me on a 2000 1.6 16v RSI is £900, but insurance on a 2000 1.6 16V SI is £500! Wots the difference? As id probably lower any car i get anyway, should i just get one like an alize or sumthing? what is the best spec thats good for insurance and modding etc? and how fast is the clio 1.6 8v? if the 16valver aint viable? Also, any ideas where i can get them? cause 1.6s seem very rare!

Insurance costs are down to loads of things. The Rsi Clios may have had loads of expansive claims or young owners have had loads of claims so insuracne costs are higher.

Also the cost of the car if you write it of may be different so when they have to pay up for an SI write off they pay out less.

1.6 are rare i think as there a 1/2 way house people either opted for a 1.2 or sports model. The differecne for a 2.0 liter Clio may havebeen very small so people only bought then for insurance reasons.

The 8 va ales is 90hp I think then 16 110 but check as certain models may be up or down on that power.

so basically if i got a 1.6 16v SI, this has the same engine as the 1.6 16V RSI? Does anyone know what kind of specs the different ranges have, cause most of these models seem to have air con, electric windows, sportlights etc?

Best try http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/car_reviews/review.aspx?history_id=759&range_name=Renault%20Clio%201998-2001here. and http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/tech_data/index.aspx?range_id=759here

1.6 Si (8-valve 90 bhp) has sports seats, sports wheels, front fog lamps and electric sunroof.

The later 1.6 16v (110 bhp) adds 14" alloy wheels with wider tyres, Bosch ABS and stiffer suspension.

The Si is an 8V and the RSI 16V 20HP difference
