clio 1.8 16v gear engaging problems

ive just got this valver L reg and its not liking going into gears.will go easy when engine is not running but clutch peddle is still stiff like you know what,can put it in to gaer without engine running but moves on own with even touching the accelerator peddle,help help please ! ! ! !

Err for my understand (not that I can realy understand your message) sounds like the clutch is bust.

What I understand is the engine goes in gear when engine is off (they always do)

The car has a heavy clutch (totally normal) new proper Renault cable does wonder with a normal clutch.

What i don't get is the car moves on its own without tocuhing the accelerator ? Do you mjean when the cras in neutral with it jacked up or what?

well basically it moves when engaged in to any gear and the clutch peddle is down ? the peddle is very very stiff to engage

My guess would be the clutch cable or pedal mechanism. Try and use something directly on the clutch fork at the gearbox end to disengage the clutch and then try putting it in gear.

Firstl chnage the clutch cable.

But I'd recon the clutch is died/dying. However when you change the clutch changing the cable for a proper Renault one (don't do ANYWHERE else for one) So if that new cable doesn't fix it it doens't matter since you'll need to replace it anyway.

One other possibility check the clucth petdal there some auto tensioner on there the teeth on them can break meaning the clutch doens't disengage when your at full entention. The cable only cheap and the teeth for the auto tensioenr arn only cheap as well.

Beacuse all copy cat onee I've ever seen are rubish. (thats quite a few makes as well).

The cable only cheap £15~20 ish.

Clutch try Renault they are cheap £86 I think last time I got one (thats list price)

do not get anything but a genuine cable, any of the aftermarket ones are rubbish and will make your clutch 100x stiffer and not work properly.

Same goes for clutches stock are cheap hold the power and more plus work all the time.

I agree you should definately go for a genuine clutch but you don't necessarily have to go to renault, I got a valeo one (the renault clutch is just a valeo one) from a local motor factors a lot cheaper than renault and its the exact same clutch

Renault clutch prices have dropped a lot over the years though.

i had this same problem, 1 of the clutch springs had popped out and was rattling around between the clutch plates, which was stoppign the clutch from disengaging, i had to start the car in gear and drive it clutchless to get it home
