clio 1 rt

Car  FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
Hi im new to the site, it was recomended by some members of corsa sport.

I'm looking into buying a clio1 rt 1.4i 3dr 1996, ive been to see it. Wonder if you have any advice or anything to look out for?

thanks for any advice you can give.

Hello and Welcome.

Look out for rusty rear arches and a leaking sunroof (erm..bring a bucket lol)

Would be good to have full service history (check if the cambelt has been replaced)

Should be done at 65/70,000 miles or after 5 years.

a cliosport sticker so you know its been looked after lol.

More to the point, if its got a sunroof, check if this leaks, the seals have gone a few times on my old rt, didnt have any other problems with mine so a good check on the body and underside for heavy rust etc.

Brakes also, my pads wore out quickly

they had recently got new brake pads, and exhaust system. i'll have to look at the sunroof seal, and the rear arches.

what can i do about the rear arches, if anything. I've heard that it is a common problem.

Check the boot for water, and the overhead lights... and maybe the footwells as well while you're at it. :)

If there isnt any rust, make sure you clean the arches asap and very thoroughly (sp)

If there is, but not alot, you can buy rusy away kits from most car retailers.

If there is, and theres alot, a trip to the body shop will be needed.

The electric mirrors didnt work, has anyone else experienced this?
Dad says it might just be loose wire or something, but no idea.

couple of small dents to be expected from age, very good exterior though. interior was good except for on the passenger door, on the door plastic cover thing there was a rip in the plastic quite notice able, something i could live with but would be nice to fix.

Oh i forgot to mention that there is also a cat 1 alarm, with no key hole or anything.

i think them door covers might be called door cards or something?

but found out today that the wingmirror problem could be the switch which could be expensive to replace.

i didnt think the rts had electric mirrors???mines an R-reg mk1 phase 3 and it hasnt??where are they on the door cards?this maybe a new door card from an rsi or summit?

I might have to give that one a pass, theres a nice 5 door but im not sure about the 5dr aspect, not sure about the looks.

On an rt dash board the dials, theres rpm and mph on either side and 3 little ones in the middle, temp, and fuel.but the other one doesnt seem to do anything, anyone know what its for?

I shorted my wing mirrors. Required a new switch, cost me ~£3 off the 'bay

all RTs had electric mirrors i thought

Yep ^ they do.

I still dont mknow what that other dial is for :S It goes all the way up when you turn the electrics up, but then back down them you fire it up :S

Edit - I got my ph3 for £1100 with 65k on the clock. definatly try to knock them down to at least £1000.

Switch sounds good then nice and cheap the way i like it.:approve:
That random dial:S . I don't know how low they will go but its worth a bash.

that dial you are all talking about is the oil level, will tell you it so you can check on ignition, when ingition is turned on fully it will drop down... :)

just got my RT, very chuffed and yes it has eleccy mirrors/windows etc..

Seems to be that sometime during 1996 they made the sunroofs electric aswell.

looks ok to me.... maybe a touch feminine ;)

hehe, you going to buy it then?

jus keep lookin around, i just bought my 1.4 rt 1997, with 51,000 miles for £1000!!but yeah watch out for the sunroof cos mine doesnt work at all cos it used to leak!!oh and my lecky mirrors didnt work either, had to buy new switch!!not to keen on that colour though!!
