Clio 1600 RXE Running problems

Hi im new to the forum and after some help with my Clio.

Basically it starts and runs fine, i can drive about and she seems fine, but if i pull up, swicth off. when i restart, 9 times out of 10 it runs like a bag of shite. its like its only running on 3. it has zero power and seriously struggles.

But soon as i left her for a hour or so to cool down, she fires up fine and drives fine.

ive got no exhaust leaks, ive changed the plugs, air filter, and fuel filter. i did a compression test as i only just bought the car and all is fine there.

im wondering if it possible coil packs? AFM if they have one? or just a random loose connection somewhere?

It changed a little today as it happened when i was driving along. pulled up at my mates, left her, had a BBQ and she started up fine bout 2 mins ago.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

Well its changed it pattern.

I was driving home today, ran fine for about 20 miles, then suddenly lost power, its like its on 3 but id say it feels more like a very weak 4. some 10 miles after it went poop, it suddenly fixed itself, then some mile later it went poop again, then bout mile later it was fine, and then at some lights it went poop again.

really desperate for some advice.

thanks

If its a 1.6 16v motor, chances are, one if the pencil coils is on its way out. Each spark plug has its own coil which is secured to the head with a torx screw, once the screw is off, you can pull the coil out of the head. To check the coils, undo all 4 screws that secure the coils to the head, start the car and in turn, take each coil out and see how much difference it makes to the running of the car. If removing one of the coils makes no difference to the (probably pretty rough) idle, youve found your culprit.
If its an 8 valve, i havent a clue, sorry.

its an 8V :( but the coils are 2 seperte coils. each coil runs 2 cylinders.

Same engine as pictured here. Btw this is not a pic of my engine so the missing inlet pipe and cover are nothing to do with it lol, stole it off autotrader.

Sorry pal. the intermittant nature of the fault would lead me towards something electrical though. other than that, id find myself a decent local garage...

I would have agreed with steviet had it been a 16v but I know nothing of 8v's.

Couldn't be a dodgy spark could it ?

thanks guys, well im going to a scrappys on sat and will steal leads, and coils and test them, otherwise i defo think its just a sensor somewhere.

its a pain in the ass as its just so random.

if anyone else has any idea, please suggest it so i can get more bits to test at the weekend

thanks

Well i fixed the car, so thought id post the problem incase anyone experiences a similar problem.

Basically the problem was the Coil with the grey plug. it was giving intermittent weak spark casing the car to seriously struggle.
i got a second hand set of coils from a scrappy for £25, i changed the black plugged one first but no change, then the grey plug one and hey presto, smooth as a pornstars *****

chuffed and the GF is so happy with her new little car :)

cheers for everyones help anyway
