Clio 16V - chipping

Im looking at chipping.

Hillpower offer 10/12BHP @ ~£175 (inc VAT)

BB Performance offer ~10BHP @ £410 (inc VAT)

Anyone purchased a chip from either of the places? Do they work?

Comments welcome.

I have a Hillpower chip and thinks its excellent VFM. Noticablly smoother and quicker...

The extra price that bb charge is probably due to the fact that they will set it up on a rolling road mapped uniquely to your car. TBH i think this is only justified if the fueling/timing has been vastly modified on your car (e.g. with cams, new injectors, headwork etc) so id just go for the Hillpower one.

The Hillpower chips are mapped to specific mods, just not uniquely to your car. Oh - they will also provide a re-mapped chip for just 35quid as long as they do the work/supply the parts on any further mods....

Got a BB when it was a lot cheaper and had fitted at same time as cambelt change. Wouldnt believe the bhp increase figures.

Main thing is the drivability of the car is a lot better with power coming in before the usual 4500 rpm mark and limiter is higher.

Id seriously consider a unichip or equivalent reprogrammable chip if you are thinking about further mods in future. Wouldnt be worth getting a chip at around 250 quid and then another at a later date when more mods have been done. Unichip would just require reprogramming.

Hillpower chip seems a bargain compared to the others now. Not sure why they have gone up so much in price.

eah just do a search on google and you should find dasteks website who make them and anyone who fits thems.

Now that the cost of a chip is increasing nearer to something like a unichip it makes sense to go the unichip route. Think you can unplug it later so you can sell your car without it and put it on another. Although it will have to be set up again for whatever car you put it on.

Just for the fact that you can set it up to say an IK and exhaust, then get it changed again when you get cams or headwork makes it a good long term proposition. Added to the fact that it will be properly set up to your car as every car is different.

A lot of 19 owners have found HP chips make their engines Pink.. Just a warning.. Unichip the better route (IMO).
