Clio 172 / 182 info please?

  Clio 172 / 182??
Hi all, newbie here!

I used to have a Saxo VTR then a (near) track spec VTS but changed to a Focus and now i want a small french hot hatch again; damn it, i miss the rattles, panel gaps, amazing handling and superb engines! :p

Anyway...i was wondering if u guys and gals could fill me in on the 3 main Clio's i'm interested in:

1. Clio 172 mk1 (not so interested in these, want low mileage!)

2. Clio 172 mk2

3. Clio 182

It seems that the mk1 172's all have 40k+ on the clock and i need a lower mileage example than that, but any info would be great. The main thing is what the main differences are between mk2 172's and 182's other than 10bhp from a fancy (and very expensive AFAIK!) exhaust system!

Also, could u specify the mk2 172 with Cup packs like u could the 182, or was it just a 172 or 172 Cup?

Any info and pics would be great - cheers!

40k on a 6 year old car is high?? Blimey :)

172 was just full fat or cup, couldn't spec any cup extras.

  Clio 172 / 182??
Thanks Evoo. So could u get ANY options on a mk2 172? Cos i want all the leather, suede, climate etc, but fancy cup suspension too!

Also, does it have the auto-on headlights, wipers etc and cruise control, ESP and all the otyher stuff the 182 has? Any other differences?

Cheers

Milage is no issue they becaome more powerful with age.

The 172 came in full fat with zeons or Cup version only here were no 182 style cup packs.
The 182's (cup paced or cup cars) have different hubs and shock and different colour wheels which give a bit more handling. The spare wheel was lost though.

The later 172's (53plate or so on) had crusie and ESP.
All the full fat 172's though have auto-on headlights, wipers half leather seat, climate zeons
The Cup went with non leather seats normal lights no ABS and side airbags
it only came in Blue and a few in silver and climate was an option on the later cars but they are rare.
Cup suspension isn't that much differen you can but the shocks etc or aftermarket stuff will be better.
The Cup does have the nice turini alloys though which look good.

The 172 mk2s though had a CD changer as an option.

I agree with Edde why are you worring about the mileage, i think mine now feels faster then ever and it's aproaching the 50K mark.

Cos i do a fair few miles still, so if i buy a 50k car now it'll be on 70k when i try and sell it. If i buy a 20k car now, it'll only be on 40k come resale time meaning it'll be easier to sell! Thats the only reason!

By the sounds of it a late 53-reg mk2 172 seems ideal then, and then just purchase some new wheels (anthractie turini's speing to mind!) and better suspension if need be?

Anything else i should know about when looking? I test drove a 182 and it sounded awesome-does the 172 too, or is it that expensive exhaust system earning its living? And can u gte a 182 exhaust/bumper combo for the 172?

Cheers!

They sound the same realy there both quite quiet.
There loads of upgrade routes though prospeed make up the exhaust you want and are popular on here.
K-tec do an aftermakret 182 look alike exhaust which fits round the 172 wheel well.
Koni springs and dampers are great value but H and R coilovers do come highly recomend but there a bit more at about £500.
