clio 172/182 Timing/ cam allingnment

can anyone help or show me a pic of how the cams are meant to sit to be in time ?

Rebuilt a 182 engine but it's as if there is fast compression? leading me to believe I have the cams set wrong ?

Cheers mate, I understand they are held with that tool but my problem is with how they sit inside the engine they can go one of two ways? because of how the tool holds them horizontally

they can only go one way.

The slot in the end of the cam is not in the centre, it is offset.
The slot should sit below the horizontal centre line

yeah obviously they can only go one way for the tool to lock the cams off but you've missed my point. Sorted now anyway cheers.

Err, your point was how do they go?
I answered with the correct and only way.

I've missed the point?

I believe what the OP is asking is which position the cams need to be in when the pistons are at TDC as the "notch" is eccentric. In that case, the timing "notches" need to be in the lower position to be done correctly. It can be done in the upper position but you will struggle to get it spot on this way.

Hope that helps
