Clio 172 Cam/Aux belt change costs!

  Mazda Mx5 + Clio 172
Hello everyone! Im new to this forum and could use some help please! I have recently bought a 2004 172 which from what I can tell has NEVER had its belts changed..... it has done 45k with FSH - I would imagine that I should have the car looked at asap. Is there anyway of the mechanics looking at the belt and seeing if it has been changed?
How much ideally should I be paying for a full belt change? And do i really need to take it to a dealer or will it be ok at a private garage? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys! Many thanks

No way really to tell unless the book is stamped or theres a invoice.

Go to a specialist, BTM or somewhere similar. Theres lots of stories about people not knowing how to time the RS's properly.

Roughly a 400 - 500quid depending on the specialist.

a normal garage won't have the special renault tools for the job (these are a must, anyone tells you different, slap them, HARD)

sub £500 without problem

(i'm £425 all in for example, Birchdown are £409 from memory, etc etc)

^ were the same as you fred now! Aux belt kit has gone up a tad! £425 give or take a penny!

There is only an Arnold Clark dealer near me (and i have heard BAD things about them recently!!!) Other than that there is a "renault specialist" called Reins Mill Garage in Honley. They claim to be specialists. Shall I risk them or can anyone advise of a "better" garage in the Huddersfield area?

doesnt bother me.

im a plumber. i can charge a £100 for something that takes me 20 minutes lol

thumbs up to that. Too many people think they're worth a fortune but wont pay the going rate when they want something done that someone else is skilled at. Fair play to you :)
