Clio 172 Cup - Hole inside each rear wheel arch

  Clio Cup 172
Was cleaning winter muck out of the rear wheel arches and found a very clean hole - in the same place each side and about 15mm diameter. Can't believe it shouldn't be blocked as it must be allowing water ingress into the body sections. Can people look at their Clio please and let me know what you see - you look up under the arch and look forwards - see picture. Will shove some bungs in there anyway but it would be good to know exactly why they are there and if they're sealed on other cars.
Cheers.

Thats for the trim clip for the arch liners, it pushes into that hole.

Thanks, but on the Cup version, due to all the weight savings, I'm told that there are no liners covering the central & forward section under the wheel arch; there are none on mine and evidence is that there never have been. Hence I would expect to see these holes blanked - even if the holes are for liner locations. I do appreciate the reply but that's why I'm keen to hear from people who have looked at their own 172 Cup to let me know what they have. Cheers.

No Clio should have a hole there, in the rear you just have a half liner at the rear where it meets the bumper.

That's an odd one bud.

Apart from the jokers (I know, ya have to expect it and I'm not complaining!) many thanks for the replies. Have plugged the holes and sealed them over with underseal (and will check behind the trim at some point) but I'm still fascinated 'cos they're obviously 'machined' holes (round and neat). So, pretty please, could anyone who currently owns a 172 Cup look up and forward under their rear wheel arches and see if they can spot anything - I can see them clearly with the wheels on and the car on the ground but you need to get close to the tyre when looking up. Fingers crossed :)

Like Carl says. Previously dents on the rear quarters, access points for dent removal.

Most normally get access from the start of the quarter at the front and work that way. People don’t like the hole plugs so chances are it was done from below.

My money is still on a missed sniper bullet in a high level secret service operation to remove Elmo from Sesame Street.
