Clio 172 Cup Tapping Noise on Tickover

Hi All - would anyone have any idea what a ticking/light tapping noise on tickover could be. It is really ony audible inside the car and comes on a few minutes after stopping and leaving her idleing. IF I rev slightly the speed of the sound increases - leave it for a few minutes and it comes and goes. The car runs fine and has done about 6000 miles with this problem. Many thanks

how many miles has it done in total?when was it last serviced? It may just be the injectors.

Hi Thanks for the reply - its done 34000 miles last serviced at 26000 which was before I got it. It's really a light tapping noise but as I say it comes on about a minute after letting it tickover. thanks

Mine did that! Not sure if it still does it, I might have just got used to it. I'll have a listen later.

I did get Renault to look at it when it went in once. They did do something. Think it might have been one of the engine mounts or something. It stopped it for a bit, but think it came back.

are you sure the exhaust isnt blowing anywhere,mine sounds a bit tinny which i reckon is the standard cat,i cant see it been the tappets after 32000 mile when there hyrdrolic

where exactly is the sound coming from? can you go outside and listen to the exhaust and then check under the bonnet... is it coming from one side or the other of the engien??

Mine's done that from new. On 48K now and still does it.

I had this problem and turned out to be the tappets. One of the tappets had seized as well and buggered the cams. had a whole new cylinder head put on at a cost of £2500. Luckily renault paid for most of it. Coul dit be the charcoal canister
