I got inner CVJ of my my right driveshaft broken exactly as shown in tread [thread]477076[/thread]. It broke after towing the car with engine and gearbox out but with shafts in.
I fixed inner CVJ recently and thaught I should share info I gathered with those who will be fixing their shafts later.
The shafts look like this:
The upper one with closed tripod is on the RHS (Renault part numbers are 7711134459 or 8200027842), the lower one with open tripod is on the LHS (8200027881). Renault doesn't sell parts for these driveshafts, only units as a whole. But it is possible to fix them as they can be taken apart.
If you are taking the LHS one out, you need to drain gearbox oil first.
Tripods from left and right shafts are the same.
Dimensions are: tripod has 30 splined teeth, bearing size is 30mm, bearing axle is 16mm, bell diameter 79mm. Bell has 23 splines, so does driveshaft on the wheel side.
Bells suits almost from any Clio 2, they say there are 2 other types of bells for clio, but they look different and rare.
Tripods with 30 splines are very rare. They say they may be found in some lagunas. Non RS clio has 29 splined ones. So do most of lagunas.
To take tripod off take off circlip, then fix the shaft and knock tripod off. It goes hard all the way even if there's no rust.
Outer CVJ may be knocked off as well.
I changed outer CVJ boot and used this one:
It is for Ford, but suits fine, I got it from previous car owner, god knows how he found it.
Hope that helps.
