Clio 172 engine noise

Help needed. Clio 172 engine noise. It had a full engine rebuild 2 year ago including dephaser. Was stood for 4 months while I was away with work, then ran good for 2 months until the rattling started. Sounds like it' tapping from the cam cover 3rd from left cylinder. I have checked oil, removed aux belt to isolate water pump etc. Nothing is loose.

My main fear is bottom end failure, any suggestions

bottom end trying to escape. and you're probably correct with it being number 2, that's the one that seems to go most of the time.

Sounds like a bag of spanners!

Where's the inlet bolts / aux belt?!

Has it ever been washed? The bonnet !


EDIT: Just seen you've disconnected the belt. Probably easier to just throw another engine in it
