Clio 172 grinding into 2nd

Hi

I'm looking at a 172 and it's just had a new clutch but is grinding when selecting 2nd gear. Wanted people opinions if I should steer clear or what the worst case scenario is

Worst case scenario it needs a new box.
Could just be a worn shifter mechanism or even a worn engine/gearbox mount.

Does it grind all the time, or does it select fine at low speed?
Are any other gears abit tough to engage or just second??

It's just 2nd gear and grinds no matter what speed,

Could be the syncro in the box then, but hold on see if anyone else has any ideas.

You want to consider the condition of the rest of the car as well, for example it's a massive plus if the car has had a recent and documented cambelt done, as that requires specialist tools to do.

and price, obviously that has to be right.

Sounds like it needs a new 2nd gear synchro to me. It'll need a rebuild (£350-£400) or replacement box (around £150).
