Clio 172 Mk2 starting problem

  Clio 172 Mk2
Hi all,

Sometimes my car doesnt start on the first turn, if I leave the igination on for 10 seconds, then start the engine, it starts OK.

Twice today I have started the car, from a cold start, the revs were 1500RPM idle, then every 3 minutes or so, the revs would increase by 500RPM, when this is happening, a LED comes up (the squad with the wavey graph line in the middle) comes on, also the throttle doesnt do anything, doesnt rev at all if you floor it.

It took me about 20 mins to start the damn car, it wouldnt turn over, but then the above problem happened

turning off the engine and back on fixes the problem, but it has happened twice today.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

PS I tried replicating the problem when I got home with the engine warm, and it was idling at just over 2000RPM, normally its 800RPM when warm, or 1500RPM when cold I believe!

hi..in Trindad, West Indies with a Clio 1.4 16V MK2. Experienced the identical scenario a few minutes ago. I haven't been able to get the vehicle to tumble over. Lights, instruments, everything is lighting up properly.
Could this be a relay or fuse problem?

Mine occasionally doesn't start first time around, though never had the "over revving" that you have said about. Believe it to be some kind of fuel/ecu related fault though im no expert.

Could it possibly have something to do with the cold start temp sendor??

Its obviously a sensor fault as its throwing up the engine management light!!!
