clio 172 or 182

  Astra gsi turbo
hi all. im looking for either a 172 or 182. im not looking to spend afortune as its only a toy. maybe around £1500. what sort of car would i get for this. i dont mind doing a bit of work myself, timing belts etc but not really after anything rusty:D

Niether 172 or 182 arnt suffering from rust yet. As for which one in your price range its going to be a 172 as your be hard pushed to get a 182 and if you did it would probably be a mega millage nail.

Where are you based?

If you're down south, besides rare exceptions, you've chance of getting anything RS at all regardless of condition be it Ph1 or Ph2. If you're midlands/north then Ph1 possibly high mileage Ph2.

As with any car, but to a much greater extent with RS Clios, condition and service history will dictate whether it's an enjoyable brilliant little car or whether it's a monthly money pit that puts you off Renaults for a long time.

Someone's selling a CAT D 182 on here for £1500. Stolen recovered. Seems ok for £1500. 105k.

Picked my 172 up for 1k. Needed belts and dephaser and had some cheeky damage to the track rod but has driven perfectly for 12 months once the work was done.
No rust and bodywork is better than average for a 2001, just a couple of car park dings. However I did get it off eBay for 1700 under the reserve price and it could have turned out to be a dog.

The way petrol is going atm the price of old 1*2s are gonna keep dropping. Keep your eyes peeled and you might find one for what you want to pay. If you can do stuff like belts yourself then you're in a good position to get one that needs some work for less and do it for the cost of the parts.

That's the thing. You may have paid £1k, but it comes with an immediate & minimum £700 catch.

Thats £1700 so not bad providing the car is good aswell. Cant be a bad thing knowing your belts have been done by someone that knows what there doing.
