Sorry one last thing, the cars at 75000 miles and if the belts haven't been done how desperate is it? I really have no clue about cars.

Thanks.

Hey guys
It’s that time, a new timing belt is required so I went my local Renault garage and the guy quoted 600 bucks due to it being a sport and all, so I laughed and he changed it to 450, then said around 500 to change the water pump as well.
Is this steep or normal?

Cheap mate! I payed £600 for water pump too! Mine was weeping but they are meant be bulletproof.
Make sure they have all the genuine Renault tools mate. Been a big thing on here about it not being done properly, and you don't want that!

Oh damn, that's pretty desperate! I think I'll try to find a specialist to have a look over my car and see what they say.

Thanks for the help people.

I paid renault £615 and that was after a bit of bargaining. Didnt trust the belt to go further afield.

ive a 172 cup on 55k, checked with my local renault garage to do the timing belt for me, it was priced at 1500 without the timing belt or pulleys provide so another 100quid on top of that&nbsp;so if renault are going to do it at that price book it in and save yourself alot of hassel, i dont know what to do with mine yet, (isnt being driven atm) :'(<BR>

i do believe a cup is quite a bit less work due to the lack of aircon and auto tensioner arrangement. i have been quoted by a specialist £450 for my phase 1 which is aircon and requires the tensioner kit etc.

FYI, I'm £250 for a cup, fully inclusive, although this is going up imminently, but will still be under £300
