Clio 172 Track car Gearbox.



Hi, My first thread so be gentle!!!!

I have a 172 for track days, the engine and box are pretty standard. Engine has uprated clutch, set of APR head bolts, decat, exhaust, induction kit, a chip and thats really it. It made 181BHP last time on rollers so there is enough there to enjoy it and I plan throttle bodies in the next few months.

First though I want to pay some attention to the gearbox. I know the sadev unit can be got but I dont really have 6k. A LSD is 800 pounds about. Is there anything else I can do?

Do quaiffe do a gear kit straight cut or anything. I dont mind keeping the H pattern but I would like to toughen the box if I can.

I have a budget of 2500 - 3000. Any more than that and its second hand sadev moeney, which are hard got and chances are I would find it hard to get all the bits to convert it.

Any advice welcome.

avanti do dog gears, levers, rods etc, think it is 3k plus fitting.

he offered me the above with lsd with bolt on crownwheel with interchangeable final drives for 4k.

failing that - sadiv box second hand.. if you ever find one LOL
 
go for a Sadev 5-Spd Dogbox.

They are around that money and include LSD.

RaceCarsDirect or the like will find you one eventually - you will need to invest some time however.

P.S. The sadev will cost you an awfl lot more than you think - you will need the shifter kit, then driveshafts @ +/- 400 each and then the race car subframe & engine mounts - its not a simple swap to a sequential. Then you are going to need ECU to allow flat shift & then a dash to run it all... £££
 
easier just breaking the standard one and replacing it when it goes, as Yoz says, it aint cheap and no one has a cost effective gearbox solution yet. Would be nice for someone to invest some time looking at a box from another car that will fit that can take the power... there's gotta be one out there...

get in touch with team think, they normally have an add on racecars direct, i know they had a spare 5 speed sadev they were selling for about the 2k mark
 
I will contact avanti so to see what they have to offer. It would be good to get something better than standard. The one I have is crunching a little going into second when changing down.

Can anyone reccomend an LSD, car is only for track never road to aggressive as they get.

If I get a sadev I then have the problem of getting all the bits that are needed to run it and have to fit and set it up. I have never even seen one in any detail.

Plus if I was to sell the car I have I might get 3k add 6k for a sadev with all the extras and thats 9k, for 12k you can get an ex-cup car full FIA complient.

If its a track only car an ex cup racer is by far the best option.

If you have a trailer and can put up with lhd it'll wipe the floor with a converted 172...
