clio 182 DIY timing belt

  Clio 2.0 182
I have just completed a timing belt and water pump change on a 94 ford escort 1.6 lx.

this is given me an idea, why not attempt the timing belt on the clio?

if i order tools required, is it really that difficult? i know the space will be tight, but patience should pay off.

Whats your thoughts?

Been discussed to death. You will get two answers:-

Either

A) it's not possible to do it correctly yourself. The ONLY people that can do it are the traders on here.

Or

B) yes, of course it is possible. As long as you have the correct tools (Renault OE) and the instructions - you'll be fine.

I'm going with answer B as I changed the belts on my 197 with no issues.

I'm guessing there aren't that may specialists on the Isle of Man, If you are a decent mechanic you'll be fine,
if you just like to tinker on a weekend probably best off having a drive to the mainland.

Research research research. You'll get a load of people telling you not to bother as you'll do it wrong etc etc. But just read up as much as possible on the timing procedure and you'll be fine. Oh and only use genuine timing tools, not the cheaper ones

I think the fear of doing the belts on the f4r stems from the fact that nowhere that i've read seems to have the correct procedure on how to do it "right" not even the offical guides. To do the job you need all the tools not just the crank pin and the gearbox side cam bar tool. All the information on how to do it is on this site it just isn't in an easy to follow single guide. Like said above just research and you'll piece together the correct procedure.
