clio 182 engine - where did the extra 10bhp come from?

  Clio DCi 100
Hey guys, is the engine the same in both the 172 and the 182? And if so where did teh extra 10 bhp come from? :)

182 manifold (4-2-1 set up) different cat (more freeflowing ), larger inlets and mapping set up

not all the parts exactly , but you can have a 182 manifold , either sports cat or decat , better exhaust system , get your inlets matched and a chip or remap done for similar or even more power ....like me ;)

wont get 200bhp though not without some major work done , cams atleast .

Renault's engineering department had come up with a better 4-2-1 exhaust system and a freeer-flowing cat, but it wasn't 10 ps. So the rest came from the marketing department.

Renault had released the 172. Peugeot had trumped that with their 180. So Renault's marketing department had to come up with a bigger number than that. A 182 to succeed the 172 sounded good, so they went with that.

EVO rolling roaded a fairly new 197 cup at 186bhp, not bad for a new engine.

the later heads are based on the turbo casting, there's some slight differences but 99.9% the same, mk1 172 has larger exhaust ports IIRC

If you look on the casting on the heads on a 182 they have the L.A.D. motorsport logo on them, that alone is worth 10bhp with no other mods.

Why does it matter!!!!?!??!?!? You never do 0-60. its always 30 to 100 or 30-120!?!??! 0 to 60 means absolutely nothin about a cars performance

other than off the lights situation .... agree with the above

Yeah off the lights maybe but it very rarely happens and also it depends how well you get off the line. its usually hard to actually achieve the quoted figures without seriously abusing the clutch etc.

Got it in one Jay..

The MK1 172's and cups are pretty much neck in neck..

The 182's aren't far behind with the 197..

Really?

Power to weight is a good representation of how fast a car will accellerate. In order -

cup - 171
182 - 165
197 - 161
172FF - 156

Dont have a figure for the ph1 but the longer gearbox ratios dont help it.

Very funny!

It is also worth remembering that it is virtually the same power thruout the rev range, just a bit up at 6500rpm.

Suppose its all about knowing what your cars capable of. No point doing a quarter mile if its gonna get showed up eh ;)
