Clio 182 hesitant..... track day ruined

Hello guys

So today I had a cracking morning at cadwell. Car was performing really well, this being my first track day in the car.

We went offsite for some lunch, and on the way back to the track, the car was VERY hesitant... no pull at all.
Usually the exhaust note changes and seems to pull harder at around 5,000rpm but nothing at all now, just hesitant all the way through the rev range in any gear.

The car idles fine, and doesn't seem to misfire in any way at all.

There is no EML on at all.

I checked levels and all fine.

I've tried scanning the car but the snap on reader couldn't find the car at all.

Has anyone had similar issues?

Many thanks

Chris

Pre cat lambda? Mine would hesitate a little when it was on the way out under acceleration.
The dephaser kicks in about 5k rpm but not sure how to check it

Since yesterday?
Replaced them all today mate yes.

Also replaced temperature switch and the little grey sensor on the right hand side of inlet manifold
I've also checked HT leads and spark plugs, both fine.

I've also unplugged lambda and made a massive different to how it ran ( worse )

Both cat and lambda were new for the MOT.

Do you think the cat might have collapsed due to me getting it mega hot on track?
I just don't don't where else to go

I need to check the timing...

I`ve got to admire your determination & work rate.

I`m guessing you are substituting parts from the original engine you replaced?

Did you refuel over lunch time?

Are you referring to pre or post cat lambda?

Can`t see why valve timing will be out if it was good in the morning.

New means what?

There are 120 DPF`s on VOR for Insignia`s just to service warranty claims at GM Luton, expected shipping date from Germany 31/05/17.

Thanks man, I feel like I'm due some luck....

I have my old engine sitting there, I stripped all parts off it this morning ready for this afternoon's process of elimination... haha

Yeah I refuelled over lunch, £26 off v power popped back in ( was filled with that before travelling to track )

Pre cat lambda was the one I unplugged and tried.
This was brand new as well as brand new cat ( just over a week or so old )

And I agree, I can't see how timing can be out... I really don't know what could of happened from these events

Doing 3 sessions
Driving 15 minutes to get fuel and food
20 minutes or so eating/talking

And then there it was, no warning or bang or anything, just trying to go up the hill and felt like I was in 5th rather than 2nd gear I was in, from that point, feels like car has gone from 180bhp to 80bhp, if that.
It's gutless, it doesn't misfire, it just hesitates badly and it's holding back. It's not jerking or rough, just very very slow

I'm really stuck....

Does it rev freely when stationary? I does sound like a blocked cat/exhaust and it's not uncommon for a new part to fail.
You could try unbolting the cat and taking it for a quick spin?!

Yeah it revs freely, it's only when it's under load that it's hesitant..
And yeah I might do that as well today...

Today's to do list...

Change crank sensor
Replace fuses
Check earths ( again )
Check wiring ( again )
Unbolt exhaust and run without

  dan's cast offs.
didn't realise was down on power all time sorry. it's probably not but just try crank sensor first. also iat and map sensor.

Inlet Air Temp Sensor
The grey one on right side?

I've changed that

The only thing I don't have is the map sensor, as I broke it getting it out of the old inlet manifold...
But I'm almost certain I'd have an EML if that was faulty.
If I unplug the map sensor whilst engine is running, it cuts out straight away

  dan's cast offs.
depends how the map is reading as to if it will throw a code or not.

the clio ecu is a bit dumb, you can have an almost dead lambda and it still won't bring a light on or throw a code up.

So...

I've now changed:
- crank sensor ( I'm getting good at taking the air box in and out now... *sigh* )
- Checked all earths and cleaned them up
- changed all smaller fuses

And still no luck.

Next to try will be removing the cat, see if it's blocked, lovely job when I have another car stuck on the ramp immobile :( ha
On the floor it is!

So!!!!

I've found my issue!!

The cat was blocked!!! Brand new cat for the MOT nearly 2 weeks ago has collapsed...
It's got very hot going around Cadwell....

I'm a very happy man!!
Just smashed it all out, and good news, it's not any louder than it was before!

Thanks to everyone for all the help!!

Chris

surprised map reading didn't show anything up.
Well... I still have a problem that for some reason I can't talk to the car...

The snap on scanner I was using is a top end bit of kit, yet I can't read ' engine ' category at all... it just comes up with that it cannot connect...

A job for another day! Haha
