Clio 182 Keys

I have had the keys to my 182 stolen, and need the locks changing. Renault have qouted me £488 which i think is ridiculous.

Has anyone else had there locks changed, or do you think i could get it done cheaper somehow?

Only one other option.
Contact a breaker or j3ned on here and buy a whole new set of locks then get some new plips (the remote bit of the keys from Renault for £35 each) and get Renault to program hem for about £40 each remote.
£488 seems a bit high but you'd have to chnage all the locks so you need to remove the panels etc and a new set of locks is £180 or so.

quick question, if i buy a new plip and get it re-programmed by reno, the key will not work in the ignition barrel as it will be a different cut shape key?? Can they be changed?

I know it might sound a daft question but its just ive seen a cheap key on Ebay, so was thinking of buying it and then buying the locks myself and getting a local garage to fit. and then reno to do the programming.

Well the key to the Cooper S was on the same bunch as the rest of my keys, so i dont want them coming back for my car when i get it back from the garage. The hire company are being really funny with me about the cooper s being stolen saying i havent taken precaution enough!! I mite be landed with a bill for recovery of the car £300, and then for the locks replacing on the Mini aswell!!!!

i cant even claim on insurance for that as its there insurance policy and not mine. Im in a mess at the moment with cars.

Yep thats what I was saying you can get Renault to order the new metal bit of the key from France for £20 or so. You can chnage all the locks though thats what i'd do personally as although if anyone trys stealing the 182 as they have the old keys they won't be able to sdtart the car as you can have the old keys removed from the imobiliser alarm they can still open the doors ans steal anything they want.
The second idea is one you could do you'd need all the locks and the associated metal bits of the key, but personally I wouldn't buy locks off ebay you never know they might have a spare set of keys and pop round your house a month later to steal the car.

Anyone else any ideas on how i can get my locks changes cheaper?
Ive been down to my local dealer today and asked them to remove the code for the key that has been stolen from my ECU but they say they cant do that.

Ive also asked if i buy a key from ebay could they code it but they said they can only be coded once? Is this true?
