cos i see there are lots of remote starter kits out there, but they all seem to come with alarms and the 182 has an alarm.

Money's not an object, i would rather pay more and get a good kit.

I had the "cheapest" clifford alarm you could get on one of my previous cars supplied and fitted by SQ Plus. When going through the brochure with them, they showed me a remote start module by Clifford that could be added to any Clifford alarm for £80.

well i dont know - i dont know anything about remote engine start, all i know is that i want one LOL.

I want whatever works really, but i dont want it to muck up my exisiting alarm and i dont want any warrenty issues.

Has

  RS 182 - Black Gold
**NOTE**

Use of a remote start system invalidates any Thatcham Cat 1 Status such as the Clifford "add-on"

Also i hear there is problems with the standard imobbliser on the mk2's as the keys are coded.

Be careful with your insurance company, some wont insure you with the remote start feature on an alarm...

so basically the out-come of this thread is -

its not worth the hassle as i have to by-pass my current alarm and immobiliser and then the insurance would be invalid.

dude if you call up gap security, theyll come out and fit a system of youre choice. theyll also rip out your existing standard alarm for around 20 quid. i had it done on my rt.

Its illegal in th UK to have one as if you leave your car running then the car is deemed as being operated without being under control. Also what happens if you start it when its in gear?

thats a bit of a b**ch and i dont leave my car in gear

right with the cliffords with intelli start it is inpossible to leave it in gear , as before u exit the car whilst the engines running u have to tell the alarm to activate the intelli start , then exit the vehicle whilst engine is running, and then lock the car and the engine shuts off, then when approaching the car next time press the start button.

Also i thought it was illegal to leave yer car running with the keys in as in ppl could just take it , ie kids etcs.

"deemed as being operated without being under control" even if the car is running the doors are locked and the alarm is set still. And if some one does get in once they press the pedal the engine shuts down.

also on the 182s the key has the chip init and the ring around the key hole has the reader , as far as im aware this cannot be bypassed. so u need part of the key near this at all times hidden within the dash, but if you dont fit another alarm / imobilizer , yer car wont be insured

hope this helps

GAP are crap - they are in the same group as Adrian Flux iirc, and they do a similar thing of saying one thing then denying it a week later.

Also, having had an immobiliser fitted by them, my central locking then went up the creek - they said they'd come out but if it wasn't their fault for it breaking then I'd have to pay £75. And what would be the chances of them admitting fault and not charging me...

Cowboys imo.
