Clio 182 Stainless manifolds on Ebay ???????????

  clio 172
I accidentaly bought one of these second hand 6 months ago thinking it was a Genuine renault 182 one for my clio 172 !

Has anybody fitted and used on of these stainless manifolds ?

what do people think ?

Has anyone had there car on the rolling road for comparison on the factory 182 manifold ?

I dont want to fit this to find out that its worse than the 172 manifold i have in the garage

ideally i would like a 182 renault one but stuck with this one at the moment !

I wouldnt expect to see a big power difference between it and genuine if its a straight copy, but I would expect the welds to fail at some point as is typical on most cheap 304 stainless manifolds.

General consensus is that they're badly made and cheap material.

For the cost of a 182 genuine manifold now, might as well buy one.

Especially as a 182 manifold is such a ballache to change if it does fail, its not a quick job to fit and remove like a 172 one!

Even a 172 manifold is a pain in the arse to change tbh!

Luckily they never fail though.

The manifold to cat bolts can be a pain if they are seized, but at least once its undone it just lifts out easily.

182 one IIRC is only possible by dropping the subframe (only one ive retro fitted I had the head off at the time so had more space)

Luckily they never fail though.

Yeah, the genuine ones dont

Correct. Subframe down to change the 182 manifold unless you want to take the head off/engine out.

f**k that for a laugh on the driveway.

Trouble with head off is is new belt and gasket etc, so a couple of hundred quid in parts aside from all the hassle, so that way is basically not viable at all.

Which leaves dropping the frame as your only option, which like you say is a ballache on the drive.

My engine i have just re-fitted but havent installed anytrhink else as of yet !

I was wondering how the hell it was going to fit in as it a 1 piece unit !

do i need to just undo the two rear bolts on the subframe chip ?

Looks like i will see if i can get a 2nd hand genuine 182 one rather than having to do it all again.

My car is a 172 thats why i was looking to fit a 182 manifold.

My fault for buying what i thought was a standard clio 182 manifold !

Whole subframe down I reckon to get enough space.

Won't get enough just dropping the rear as it's an awkward shape.

If the engine is just dropped in the hole but not plumbed in yet then it would be easier just to pull it back out again I would think.

Or possibly (I really dont know, never tried) you might be able to lean it forward enough for clearance if the radiators arent in front of it etc.

No radiators or shafts are in place yet ! I wish I had looked into this before I dropped the engine and box back in lol !

takes about 4 hours on axle stands (not long done the upgrade to a 182 mani on my 172)
total arse of a job, I dropped the subframe on a pair of trolley jacks to make lifting it back in easier.

Also, mine was a genuine Renault one, paid £190 delivered on ebay

I'm wondering if its worth all the hassle and just stick with the 172 manifold .

it was a mission dropping the engine in as I don't have a leveller for my crane

biggest reason I changed was to make cat access easier.
My 172 cat was shot to buggery and it was cheaper to get a 182 mani and have a cat made up to fill the gap.
I've also got a decat, so swapping them over is now a 10 min job on the drive.

Did you have to drop the subframe to fit it buddy ?

I think the subframe was dropped.
