Clio 182 Towbar?

yes thats right. I want to know if anyone has done it. It looks like a bit of customizing needs to be done?

The 182's aren't rated to tow so by law you can't fit one.

for what reason is it illegal?

if i had one just for a bike rack and there for wasnt towing anything is this away around it?

I think you just have to weld/bolt to chassis and cut to bumper but it's a mod so it'd have to be declared although theyre saying it's illegal if you do declare it and illegal if you dont. Bit of a sod's law imo.. ?

funny that a 1.2 can tow but a sport cant.

due to the exhaust on the 182 i think?, 172's are allowed to tow i'm probably wrong though, lol

ivspoke to my local towbar fitter and he said the towbars dont fit 172/182's. i will ring renault and see what the score is, if they know

Also, i had a look under my brothers 182 he's just got and the exhaust's are 2 back box's feeding just off the cat. My dad said his was 1 transverse backbox with 2 pipes feeding of this? any idea's what the score with that is, did they make 2 types??

I have seen a 172 with a tow bar but the 182 has the twin back box, so mounting will be difficult.

If you want to carry bikes, then just get yourself the roof bars and some decent cycle carriers for them.

Roof bars look gash. a removable towbar is a much more attractive option
Also, roof mounted stuff seriously add's to fuel consumption

172 and 182's arn't type approved

they can fit the 172 easy enough since its the same shell as a 1.2 etc. 182 requires a certain type of bar or a one off depends where you go and speak to.

Not type approved renault didn't want the car to be able to as its doens't fit the brand skoad are the same with the vrs. plus other manurfacturers.

Plsu its not a great car to tow with anyway.

I've just bought a tow bar for my Cup off a guy on here. Any Clio tow bar will fit a 172/cup, not sure about 182's because of the exhaust.

It's crazy that they're not legally allowed to tow, I don't really understand it.

A guy at my old work had a 172 cup and fitted a towbar. Had it from new and used it as a van. 5 years and 100k later it was fucked and he ended up selling it for £2500.

i have seen under a clio with a tow bar fitted and am going to look under a 182 to see if it will go.
