cost me low 14k form a dealer. not interent. so what else can you buy form a dealer for 14k then? brand new? er... nowt.

i come form fact land myself. i have owend a 182 for 2 plus yrs. i now have a 197. i have been over this many many times re 182 vs 197. i don't like doing it as they are totally dsiffernet cars. the 197 is old golf size now so it is pointless. but if you 172 chav chariots want ot compare feel free if it makes you feel better

what spec is missing? climate control? so what it has air con. xenons? yeahs i would have had them but the standards are just as good in my experience, but i do miss the blue glow. auto lights and wipers? ah well i can live with out them. leather? yeah wudn't mind that but tbh the standard seats are comfy anyway.

as for the track comment. i have driven my 182 round a few tracks and will be tkaing the 197 to the ring in a few months. form what i have done in the 197 xcountry the slight discrepancy in outright speed ot a 182 doesn't matter. the 197 OWNS a 182 xcountry big time.

so i see you haven't even driven one? lol

i can't be arsed discussing it with you tbh as it is a waste of my time. (but i already did!)

I test drove one when I considered my current 182, and all I can say is while it felt planted and fairly quick, the interior wasn't luxurious and for me, I like to spend time in my car - leather is a must, not least of which it wears better, and all of the driver aids like the improved lights and decent intermittent wipers make the 182 a much more attractive buy. I just think the whole package of the 197 isn't an attractive proposition, whereas when he offered me a drive in the 182 I sat in it and knew instantly it was what I was looking for.

And the 'lol at 18k' comments are uncalled for. I don't know what makes a Moderator on this forum but a half-decent maths ability doesn't count. People are talking about list price, with the same kit that the outgoing model it replaced came with. By which time you're 3.5-4k up on the old price, and that's not insignificant...

Performance wise the figures don't work out, how you can make a new car slower (in all matters of the word) than the previous ones is silly really.

If it's being judged on overall improvement, thats why it hasn't got rave reviews!

But the 18k is not a realsitic price. the 197 is available for 13.5k online and there are big discounts at dealers. RobhardyUK got a good spec 197 for very little dosh and no where near 18k. Mine was jsut over 14k brand new. What else can you get in this sector to compare? you can't. A golf is 20k an st is 17.5k, astra is like 19k. I imagine you can't get more than say $500 offa golf, Maybe 750 off an ST and similiar off a VXR. But that i am guessing at. evne the cheapest ST people would add optinos to that aswell making it more expensive.

The direct comparison is the cooper S for me. But that is impossible ot get discount on and you need to add extrass to that (ie aircon iirc).

I take your point about the 182/172 kit level but the 197 is the first release of form the new clio. It will undoubtedly get additions and more kit as the years go by. oh your banter about moderators was s**t! LOL!!!!!!!

I think you need to go off price you can get them for realy.

yeah but what they ask for them and what you cna actually get them for in a dealer is a differnet thing all together.

That ST is a good price. is it friends and family discount?

Make sure you drive one for longer than 20 mins though, Seb gets upset if you make judgements on a short demo test drive

Was waiting for the financial issue to arise, put simply...i CAN afford one, i HAVE driven one, and my money WILL go towards the MORE expensive 230 R26 which is truly a fantastic Renaultsport which they got spot on!!

I had two test drives in 197s to make sure. The first drive let me wanting, I felt something was amiss, I was bitterly disappointed at the lack of miles on the car too seeing as I was quite a late comer to the car, happy to say the second time I drove one, it had over 5500 miles on the clock and did at least feel like engine wasn't using black treacle as oil. I wouldn't say it was rapid, but it keep me excited and even seemed to have an increased urgency around 5.5k rpm and zinged right up to the limiter. I hit 110, what seemed fairly easy.
