Clio 197 Steering Wheel wear - what to do?

The steering wheel on my 197 has started to wear at the ten to two position. The top coat of rubberised surface is peeling off and its annoying.
What has anyone else done?
These people seem to come recommended - i'm assuming at about £150 - for a retrim

Or a new wheel seems to be around £250-£270?
OR is there a cheaper solution?

this is going to sound crazy but get some really fine grit sandpaper and use circular motions over the bit which is starting to melt, it will improve it no end. I will do this to mine at the weekend if you want to see the results before doing it.

Funny, i'd been thinking of trying that.
Didnt get a chance to have a try yet, but will give it a go i think.
If that doesnt work i'll give Snappy a shout.
