Clio 200 test drive

  260% JCW
Test drove a 200 Cup this weekend,

First thoughts were that the inital pick up or acceleration was'nt what i expected. IMO my 172 seem's a bit more willing/quicker.

Dont get me wrong when its wound up it sounds great and has great pace, also the way it handles staright out of the box is magic. The build quality has also come on leaps and bounds and using the gearbox is great. Precise and tight.

Was surprised with the standard renault sport seats too, very supportive.

The Cooper S feels quicker off the mark once the turbo spools up but runs out of puff, where as the Clio screams to 8k revs and love's it. (i know theyre two different animals) The 200 handles better, I dont rate the handling on the MCS, that might change this weekend though when i get shot of the runcrap tyres.

I had a good blast with the gf in her mcs at the weekend. I was impressed but the run flats are gash! Not driven the 200 yet but it sounds good! Pity about the looks...

The 200 is a great car, and in the right colour combo can look very good :) Your right about the 172 / 182 seeming to pick up quicker though. I really did miss that at first when I picked up my 197, but its just something you get used to.

My exact thoughts kevster!
Although the one that I drove only had 8 miles on the clock.. I do believe once it opens up a bit the 200 will be more eager.

Think I'll be signing on the dotted line very soon! I do love my 182 too much though

I also test drove a 200 with cup package last weekend. As said in other threads, I thought it was a massive step on from the 182, although I agree with your remark about the lack of immediate pick up.

Anyway, subject to the dealer offering me the deal I want, I'll be ordering a 200 in June, in black, with black speedlines, recaros, cup suspension, spoiler and cornering lights. I thought the spoiler looked way too chavy in pics, but in the metal it works well.
