Clio 3 boot rusting

Lee

  BMW M2C
Has anyone else noticed rust bubbles forming on the boot in the gap between the boot and the rear screen?

I've just been to pick mine up from the dealers after they took a look. It's going through as a warranty claim as it should, but that's pretty f**king pathetic to have a 2 year old car rusting already.

Out of my last 4 Renaultsport Clios this one has by far the worst paint/bodywork out of all of them, the Trophy wasn't great but the 182 and 172 were fine.

I really fanced a 200, but the grief the Cup has given me has really put me off.

I saw your posts Stu, but yours were related to the holes drilled for the spoiler weren't they?

Prone they may be, but not in just 2 years. By the time it hits 3 the boot will look like a 15 year old Ford Transit.

I rarely believe them. When I collected the car I was told the usual tale of it being contamination on the paint. I got the service manager to come and have another look, this time with me there to show him what I meant. He instantly said it was a warranty claim and he would put it in right away.

I've not owned a car with rust bubbles since I was 17 year old!!!!

Sarah took it in about a week ago for the 'recaro issue'. Not sure who she saw but she was asked for the keys so he could take it out! She told him where to go and took him out so he could see the seats take photos and 'send them to france' and will call us back. Still not heard anything. Its waiting to go in and have the seats done and all 4 wheels replaced under warranty.

Mine are kerbed to f**k. One of them got scratched while having new tyres fitted two weeks ago. They agreed to get it repaired, but I can't be arsed to get it done at the moment.

Mine were ok'd ages ago now tbh, but just havent had time to get it back in to them. Sarah is working that way now though, so she can drop it in when they ok the seats.

It may have had a new rear screen
if that's the case then pert of the process is cutting the old glue off the bootlid which inevitably goes through the paint and down to the metal. It need to be treated properly before regluing SMS refitting
shake the boot lid and listen for glass rallying around and look under the boot carpet for glass

It's not had one while I've had it, and I've had it from new, but that counts for nothing when you consider the state of the front wing and bonnet when I collected it!

 I must admit I keep saying to myself: will I keep the 200 as long as the 172? Most likely not then! As it'll most likely be in a bit of a state. However, mine is garaged and used infrequently (maybe that's the solution!?)

Mine certainly gets plenty of use. I'm going to run it in to the ground then trade it in. lol

Still thinking S2000. Would be fine for my commute, not too expensive to run and looks good.

Was always going to happen tbf. People got a bit ott about the build quality when the mk3 emerged. Stopping a dash rattling isn't the best indicator of overall build quality, in typical Renault fashion bits start to go wrong after a couple of years. And the dealers are woeful at sorting issues!

I heard you're being undecisive and there's lots of cars that take your fancy (understandable)
Have you ever thought about building your own 'perfect' car?

Build quality improvements weren't something I was really expecting. But rust was something I really didn't expect. It's never been an issue on my previous Renaults.

If I did that Brian it would be cheap and wouldn't cost me £60 a week in petrol. The only real contenders are a 200 or an S2000. The Elise would be in there if I could live with it daily, which I couldn't.

You have it easy Lee. Try finding something thats good for the commute, has a half decent turn of speed, but is cheap enough for a young driver to insure in her own name :(

Don't put her on the policy. Simple. :approve:

She already on the 197 policy :( It could do with being changed before the wedding though, do got a while tbh.

It's finally sorted. They repaired/replaced the boot. As usual no one at the dealership had a clue what the bodyshop did or were doing.

As usual it didn't go smoothly. The day I was due to collect the car I had a call to say it was going to be an extra couple of days due to them scratching the boot while putting the glass in. This meant it had to be sprayed again. Because of that, I took the courtesy car to the rally in Wales and returned it covered in mud.

Which dealership was this Lee?

I'm finally having my wheels replaced under warranty after Renault Birmingham messed up a refurb twice and damaged my spoiler tips and then after promising to pay for the replacements, withdrew the offer because I wasn't happy with the second wheel refurb!! RUK sorted it all in the end and going to have the wheels done tomorrow at a different dealers.

Birmingham. If they did your work then it went to RS Motors. They did my bonnet, wing and now the boot. Plus I had two wheels done by them. I was going to get them done elsewhere, but they assured me the paint match would be perfect and the quality would be as new. What a load of b****cks. The paint match was poor and they're both flaking. The bonnet and wings match okay I suppose. The boot currently looks fine.

Rust is common on the Clio 3 bootlid.

Its where the water collects at the bottom of the rear window where it meets the glass. Its kind of a V shape.

I can understand that, but it collected on the Clio 2 also, and the rust on mine was much higher up than where it sits. To be honest, I don't expect any rust on a 2 year old car. None of my other Clios have ever had rust, but then none of them were thrown together by blind monkeys as my Cup obviously was.

From new it's needed the bonnet spraying due to dust under the paint, a wing spraying due to a massive run in the paint, the rear bumber removing to put the rubber bungs in the body where they forgot at the factory (the boot filled with water) and the boot repairing due to rust. I'd say it's the worst quality car, let alone Renault I've ever owned. But I can't help but love it and every day I love driving it, and yes I'd buy another. In fact I did enquire about a RB 200 while I was in there collecting it.

Oh dear Lee, though doesnt surprise me considering the state of my wheels. More runs than I can count, no lacquer on the inside edge of the spokes, and the tyres werent removed, so they werent baked and paint that soft it was damaged when new tyres were fitted!

Never going back Renault Birmingham for anything tbh, not even if I decide to buy another new Renault.

Lee, i'm not trying to justify it!! lol.

My old ph1 172 had new passenger door, new bonnet and a new tailgate under warranty due to rust.

RB 200? LOL, was going to say you must be nearly ready to throw this one way and get a new one!

I know, I'm just ranty today.

It's 3 in March Brian, which is offically the longest I've owned any car. I may hold out till it hits 4 though. Unless it does something really bad. The thought of not having a warranty on it does worry me a little.
