Clio BHG change - Now it wont start?

  clio 1,2 rl 92
Hi Guys,

I have just replaced a blown headgasket on my Clio 1.2 rl 92 and know that im about to start the engine for the first time , theres NO read NO power?

I can measure that theres power on both the starter and alternator but when I turn the key or try to switch on the Lights - NOTHING hmmmmm

Any Ideas?

I noticed that theres a loose plug hanging just over the alternator behind the engine, but it dosnt seem to fit anywhere?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

are the multiplugs in the relay box connected properly?
are all earths good?

you really want 12.6-12.8V from the battery, just 12v is a bit on the low side.

Left an earth strap off somewhere?

Check your battery terminals are tight. Get a mate to sit in the car, see if your getting power to the starter actuator (not the big red wire the little one) when they turn the key to crank.

Failing that, I'd test the battery.

Battery is good -
Terminals also secured firmly -
earth tested ok on the body and block -

I meassured power by the alternator and the starter but no where other then those two?

Could it be that power isnt being sent past the alternator?

Theres 2 wires onto the starter - got 12v at both at one point?.

Ones 'permanent' if you like, and the other should get 12v when cranking or key in the crank postion.

On the starter theres only power at the permanent one:-(
NOT on the ignition one.

Ive been looking at the wire diagrams and can see that the starter gets power first and then the alternator and since nothing else has power its safe to assume that the problem lies here, right??

What the most common alternator problems in these cars anyone know?
Is there a fuse located in the alternator?

Thanks again everyone:)

Ok some progress:)

The alternator check out fine - but I found 2 relays located behind the Driver side head light and when I place a wire between the large red /+ and a small yellow - I can crank the engine and theres lights in the cabine and ins- cluster??

Anyone knows what seems to be the problem? broken relay?
or maybe a fusable link broken?

please help

Thanks
Marlon
