Clio Cup Induction and Exhaust

Just a quickie guys

My cup now runs an efi map and a Ktec Induction kit, I have prob gone about things the wrong way round but hey ho wasn’t gonna mess but the demons are constantly whispering in my ear

At present I have standard exhaust and the car is so smooth and responsive filter sounds great

Now Ktec have put up their new stealth resonated system can some one just advise the benefits of me putting this on and how noisy it’s likely to be

I am aware I will have to pop back to efi for some tweaks on map

Just opinions before I make the jump

How much is the ktec?

Tbh to a degree, exhaust and kits are just for noise etc, they make little difference. The key is belt timing.

What figures at efi?

Think it works out about 430 inc postage mate

Made 174.9bhp after the map mate that was standard before I fitted the induction kit

How much is the pms these days?. I'd opt for a second hand one imo. 430 is lots.

Decent enough figures tbh mate. When are the belts due

I looked at the pms but mega money and full system, was just gonna go cat back. The belts were done inc desphaser and water pump last month

Upto you but 430 is imo a waste. From memory they don't even sound that good?.

Maybe get a price on a custom system or try a decent second hand system off here.

182 manifold and a 2nd hand cat back stealth with decat to suit 182 manifold would be my choice, cheaper and will do the job

I had a genuine standard exhaust in my last 172, it drove the nicest of any of mine! Nice and quiet with a throaty noise up the revs

Thanks Martin I would have only changed if improved the throttle response drive ect never set out for any power gains as I know it’s hard to achieve

cat back wont add any power, only noise, which will drown out the induction noise, so basically a waste of cash, unless your current exhaust is falling to bits. spend the money on suspension mods instead.

Well it’s ordered now so will get it on and get it back to efi see how it goes with that and filter on not looking for any power gains really existing exhaust is shite

I made an intake out of a pringles can and duct tape, wouldnt spend any more time or effort than eating pringles to make gains without going boost

I would be interested in the gains. I must admit my favourite sound from the 172 is with induction kit fitted and standard system with decat.

I have had various 172 systems, ktec with and without center silencer, supersprint, powerflow to name a few.

For some reason the 182 systems I have had generally sounded better, which must be to do with the back box configuration. The last one I had was fitted with a 200 cell sports cat and custom system made by pipewerx @imprezaworks This sounded lovely. Just the right amount of exhaust and induction noise.

On my track car I have a 182 manifold and decat pipe with a custom system. This is fairly noisey. I like the look of the slash cut tail pipe. There is a custom exhaust place with a good reputation not far from me. I would like to get a replica of the standard system in stainless steel with a slash cut tip on, that exits the hole in the bumper. I must be getting old!

I appriciate the bore and any restrictions to flow are likely to affect gains in bhp.

Quite like the look of this on eBay. I suspect it would be quite noisey. Be nice to have a balance of performance, noise and how it looks. Anyone had one?

Cost is a big implication too! Depending on your results I might just get a slash cut tip welded on a standard system ?

I nearly ordered this mate but was put off by floyyd at rs Renault specialist said the ones he’s fitted have all come back off due to poor fitment else I was gonna order one

That back box looks similar to the origional ktec system. Looks nice. Any pics of center pipe?

looks a nice bit of kit. previous ktec one didn't sound great and droned but at least it has centre silencer on this new one. ive had 2 ktec stealths on previous 172s and the unsilenced one was awful for noise and not in a good way either. the pro-speed stealth on my current cup has centre silencer and its really quite quiet which I like. also running ktec induction.

Thanks for the advice mate I went with the silenced option for the same reason hopefully this new system has some of the issues addressed from last time round

The gt performance one should be a decent system.

It's surprising how some systems always seem to breathe better than others so good system does make a difference.
