MURRAY AND PEAD SHARE VICTORY SPOILS AT SNETTERTON

Xcel Motorsport’s Eoin Murray (Dublin) and Mardi Gras Motorsport’s Ed Pead (Beckenham) took a win apiece during rounds 13 and 14 of the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Snetterton yesterday – Pead’s victory enough to take him to the head of the championship standings by just a single point.

With Boulevard Team Racing’s Danny Buxton (Hartford, Cheshire) opting to sit out the Clio Cup races due to his weekend’s British Touring Car Championship commitments, the other series frontrunners were keen to make the most of the opportunity to close in on the former champion in the title chase - and this they certainly did.

ALLISON SWITCHES TO CLIO CUP AS GRIFFINS REPLACEMENT

Formula Ford driver Matt Allison (Norwich) is the latest of a growing number of drivers switching to the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup having signed a deal with Team Griffin Racing to contest the final three meetings of the 2003 championship as he aims to launch a career in saloon car racing.

The 20-year old, who finished fifth in last seasons Formula Ford UK Championship and has been contesting the series again this year, will take over the car driven so far this season by TGR owner Julian Griffin (Fleckney) who has decided to step-aside from racing for the time being to concentrate on running his Clio Cup operation.

Team Griffins news comes as the outfit also announces the running of a third car for single-seater driver Fergus Geekie (Oxford) who will line-up alongside Allison and the Vic Lee Racing-backed Marcus Thomas (Northampton) who debuted at Snetterton. This takes the Clio Cup entry list to a healthy 22 cars.

MURRAY TAKES THIRD WIN AFTER RE-STARTED RACE

Xcel Motorsports Eoin Murray (Dublin) took his third win of the season at Brands Hatch on Bank Holiday Monday during a highly dramatic round 15 of the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup.

The Irishman set the pace in Sundays 20 minute qualifying session by taking NGK Laser Platinum Pole Position with a best lap on the 1.22 mile Indy Circuit of 52.704 seconds - just over a 10th quicker than the returning Paul Rivett (Banstead).

Reigning champion Rivett, driving for Boulevard Team Racing in place of the departed Danny Buxton (Hartford), originally appeared to be the man to beat after going fastest in Saturdays test session but could only manage the second best time in qualifying. Total Control Racings Jonathan Fildes (Trim, Co.Meath) lined up third on the grid ahead of Xcels Oli Wilkinson (Balham) in fourth while championship leader Ed Pead (Beckenham) set the fifth fastest time to share row three with Mark Davies (Mirfield).

BRITISH MOTORSPORT BOOST AS RENAULT, ELF AND

HILL HOUSE HAMMOND JOIN FORCES

Three of the biggest supporters of British motorsport have joined forces to create a powerful alliance which will benefit drivers and teams in both karting and car racing. ELF, Hill House Hammond and Renault have linked together in a move unprecedented in national motor racing.

The alliance will see Renault joining Hill House Hammond as sponsor of three of karting racings premier categories - Formula A, ICA and JICA - bringing Britains top emerging young drivers closer to this countrys leading junior single-seater series, Formula Renault UK. Formula A and Formula JICA are the elite MSA British Championships in the ELF/Hill House Hammond Super One Series, whilst Formula ICA is this countrys leading national kart championship.

Hill House Hammond will also become joint title sponsor with ELF of the Clio Cup championship and as result the prize fund for Britains best one-make saloon series has been boosted to £75,000. The insurance specialist will also be offering Renault teams preferential rates for commercial and public liability cover.

LIGHTWEIGHT LLOYD REFLECTS ON FIRST FULL YEAR OF RACING

Wolverhampton-based ELF Renault Clio Hill House Hammond Cup competitor Kevin Lloyd truly is one of the most recognisable drivers in the entire TOCA Tour paddock - and while his weight may catch the eye initially its his genuine nature and likeability that stand out most.

The 42-year old larger-than-life character, who away from the race track is director of his own electrical and mechanical manufacturing company Kaltec, has enjoyed every minute of his first full-season of Clio Cup action as team-mate to 2003 Champion Jonathan Fildes (Trim, Co.Meath) and hes keen to return in 2004 with a unique sponsorship deal.

Kevin, who bills himself Lightweight Lloyd in a tongue-in-cheek reaction to his ample and untypical 23-stone frame, first became actively involved with motorsport after sponsoring Jason Templeman (Newark) at Wednesbury-based Clio Cup outfit Total Control Racing during 2001 and 2002.
