Clio having starting problems

jbv

  clio dci
Hello hoping someone can help. I have a 2006 renault clio campus dci 1.5. Its a real work horse and has done 166,700 miles but generally speaking it is still going strong. Recently it has developed starting problems, and this has got progressively worse.

It now takes 3-4 turns of the key to get it going. I have tried a couple of things to sort it including - using EGR cleaner (type you spray in air intake), using injector cleaner (in fuel), changing the glow plugs, full service including fuel filter change (which was overdue). I have also taken it to a garage - non renault specialist. They said I needed a new crank sensor which they replaced and that the diagnostic computer was showing an injector fault. I'm slightly unconvinced that it is an injector problem - partly admittedly because I don't want it to be that expensive but also because once it does actually start it runs beautifully, it has never cut out whilst running or idling the problem is only when starting. It also seems to be better at starting if its been running recently - although this is a little inconsistent and sometimes is just as bad.

Would be very interested to hear any thoughts

I love it when someone tells you its an "injector" problem on a common rail diesel as 7 out of 10 times, in the case of the K9K unit, its actually not.

It needs proper diags though as mentioned above and someone thats not trying to up-sell you a set of injectors based on a code pulled with a generic bit of kit.
