I have a completely dead ir sensor board (near the cabin light) but my key is fully working, I wondered if anyone knew if I buy a second hand board from say another Clio or same era R5 would it work as there are some for sale on eBay. Thanks

Bit of a minefield this 1 is, depends what phase car yours is and what ecu you've got because the wiring differs slightly between them.

As a rule of thumb, the IR sensor itself isn't paired up to the key (it's the bits after the sensor that are apparently coded together) so you should be able to get 1 from another car and it will work.

I've tried 5 or 6 different sensors on mine & they all worked with the original key but that was a Ph2 car with a ph1 ecu. But I have read that others with different combinations had different results, so it's a bit of a gamble. As long as they're not ridiculously expensive just send it & see how you get on

Ok thanks, mine is a late one (p reg) making it a phase 3 I believe, the options on eBay are ir sensors or the ir sensor and key so I was thinking the key was linked to the ir sensor.

I tried a couple of spare receivers on my ph1, None of them worked. They could just have been faulty though. (My original works fine)

I just bought one from eBay so I’ll let you know if it works, and thanks for the seat buckle RichValver.

I took a gamble and bought one off eBay without thinking to much about it, now I have received it I realise i have a far more sophisticated board (green is mine and brown is an earlier version).

Would they be the green pcb style?

The problem was the car had been sitting with a leaky sunroof so I guess it corroded the board

I think the brown ones might be r19? I just had a look at my spare ones. One was green and one was brown but with slightly different ir cover to the clio one

I was looking at some French forums regarding these modules and the early boards went in various cars, it seems like even the early ones couldn’t be swapped out without the correct fob as the ir frequencies where different to stop you unlocking an entire row of Renaults in a French supermarket car park. They work in the same way all you’re seeing is a more modern set of capacitors. I believe the ir sensor then sends a message to the car’s onboard computer but I’m not sure really whats going on, there must be more too it then simply seeing a basic ir signal from a key fob and then unlocking everything surely.

I`ve had a mid repair photo come back from the PCB repair guy, it looks as though over time the contacts on the board themselves have dissolved.
