Clio mk4 RS EDC (2013 plate)

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi guys,

My Clio Mk4RS has failed MOT on both front side lights and rear passengers side lights not working.

Garage is reckoning it's the Body control module, which may be correct, however I see mention of daytime running lights in some Renault's doubling as the side lights (though the sidelights may still be present, just not fully wired up). Wondering this may the case, and I may just have a separate earth/wiring issue with the rear passengers side light.

Anyone in the know know?
many thanks. Justin

hi. The sidelight bulbs in the headlights are present but do not work on the rs model, it appears they fitted bulbs as a matter of course. The daytime running lights in the bumper are the sidelights. Are your daytime running lights working? Is they are it seems strange they’d fail the mot for the sidelights which never work on them.

The DRL are your sidelights on these cars - they dim down when sidelights are turned on. As @PP200t says the bulbs are there but only for show!

change the rear tail light bulb and you should be good to go.

Many thanks guys, I'll feed this back to the garage! Are there any Renault documents detailing this you know of? Just in case garage as for 'proof'.

The rear side light bulb doesn't fix with a bulb change and apparently the fuse is ok too, so may be an earth or wiring issue? Bit of a pain.
Cheers again!

Have a look through the manual, I’m sure it will say in there that the daytime running lights are the sidelights.

Might sound daft but try another new bulb, I’ve known new bulbs to be dud out the box. If it’s still not working then you might have a wiring issue.
do all the other lights on the side work ok?

Hi Sash,

Thanks, yes just the side light at the rear passengers side.. they've tried 2-3 bulbs.

Yeh I'm thinking wire /earth issue ..

Thanks pp200t

Attaching what I found in the smaller Renault sport Drivers handbook ..in case helps anyone down the line. It states the side light bulb under 'A' in the diagram is deactivated, so not necessary to change it...
Seems to also include the GT line in addition to the RS.

Perfect, thank you!

So the saga continues... garage accepted the fact the sidelights are not intended to operate, fine, but the passengers side DRL not working as intended.
The garage have now had the front passengers DRL out, and there's no power going to it. So, that plus the rear passengers tail light, they are now back at the body control module idea..so have the challenge of sourcing one of those with the correct part number! Don't know the part number yet but they are taking the old one out today to get part number.
What a ballache.
Cheers

Ah, that’s a bit of a bummer. Afraid I’ve got no help for that!

Part number confirmed as 284B19573R

Now the hunt begins..
Seems to be RS (&poss GT) specific part as most of the 1.2's I've seen on eBay have a different part number

Actually that's rubbish, plug in the part number and there are a few available, from various engine sized clios... All same part number, but there's a 5digit number at the sidethat seems to differ. Whether that makes a difference Lord knows ..

The DRLs are different in the Sports to the non sports.
Have you contacted Paul at @renaultpartsdirect see if he can help?

Thanks for the comments guys..I ultimately had to kind of leave the garage to it. Got car back eventually today. Up in Aberdeenshire area, so miles away from any decent RS Specialist unfortunately. They failed to solve the problem, and ended up outsourcing to another (far more expensive) garage (without my approval)...who did fix the issue, but at a savage price. It was apparently the BCM (though I'm still not completely clear/convinced). Very poor communication from Dinneswood garage throughout, who ultimately did have a nightmare of a job & would have made a loss, but should have said at the start they were not up to it. Rant over..

Onwards and upwards.

My suggestion for anyone experiencing similar electrical or light issues (with suspected Body control module BCM / UCH to blame) would be to go direct to a garage who have confirmed they have the know how and IT equipment to sort a suspected BCM out. Or attempt to wire the non working DRL or rear sidelight to the other side (bit of a bodge but surely would be a reasonable workaround).

Would be worthwhile an admin renaming this post to reference BCM /UCH issues.

Cheers. Justin
