clio not very well please help

Ive got a problem i think with my 172. When stationary theres a popping niose coming from the exhaust it isnt continous but quite frequent and the car seems to shudder very slightly. Also somtimes when i go to start up it doesnt happen the first attempt it takes another go before the car starts??

please help me
other info if it helps my cars a 51plate 172 with 24000 on the clock.

Does the electrical fault light come on?

Looks like a heart monitor type thing?

When you rev it do the revs pick up like lumpy and not very smooth? Sounds like coil pack

Had exactly the same problem. ended up replacing all four coil packs. easy to do urself

sounds like a coil pack or leads breaking down, dont worry this engine only has one coil pack

Get the TDC sensor checked I'd bet its faulty.

thanks for the responses im getting jay172 to av a look on tues when he sorts out my abs pump. He seems to think its the tdc sensor but we will see
