Clio not wanting to start :(

Had bin to the cinema today, went to try and start up afterwards, the engine cranked over once but then died straight away. Tryed restarting but nothing happened at all this time apart from a clicking and humming noise coming from the engine bay. Lifted the bonnet and put the ignition on, and found the noise as coming from the fuse box. Kept on trying to crank it over but get nothing. On one of the trys the fuel pump under the rear seats stayed on even with the ignition completely off which I thought was strange, but there is definately fuel getting through as I took the pipe off. Im thinking it's one of the relays but im unsure which one, and why it would do this?

Any suggestions on what to do would be very appreciated

I had very similar symptoms and it was the "flywheel motion sensor." I presume by Cranked ovder you mean ticked over? like your turning the key and its firing the started motor but not the engine?

The first time it wanted to start, but didn't. Since then it won't do anything, on the 3rd turn of the key to start up, nothing happens, I just get this ticking noise coming from the relays, and the fuel pump going.

Ive just been searching through the faults section too. Having found problems that people have been having with immobilisers I though I'd check mine with the spare key. With the ignition turned on with either key, the immobiliser light stays solid, but with the key not in, it's as normal, flashing away. So im not sure if that could be at fault?

U cheated Rich . Turned out it was an earth strap, the one that connects to the gearbox housing. It had just completely split in half. I hooked it up to the fault finder at work and came back with no codes, so im glad I didn't take it directly to renault. After putting the new one on I did have to reset the imobiliser though. Hope that helps Jonny

where does the other end of the strap connect to? i too have starting problems, if the garage cant look at it today ill have to get out there in the cold and sort it myself. i can see the connection on the gearbox from above and its tight.

i can start the car by connecting an earth from the negative terminal to the engine support hook thing...
