Clio Rear beam Solid or Twist????

As above which does the mk2 clios have? Fixed rear suspension or semi independent suspension?

it is a genuine enquiry as some people are saying clios have solid rear beam so totally fixed suspension, so im asking to confirm this or not...

If you don't know the difference between the two then ask!!!!!

Been busy most of the day and away from the car lol.
Also found out after a few knobs saying clio has fixed rear beam and its why it has great handling (which I laughed at! ) turns out thay do have a twist beam

Anyone know if there different between 1.2/172/cup/182/ect....????????? ie are thay just all the same or are 172/182s ect better????????

182/172 rear beams are stiffer & wider (or is the wider rear track achieved with disk brake gubbins?) than non-sport beams. No doubt mountings are identical though so physically possible to fit either.

Not sure if trolling or just getting confused between the totally different European & American meanings of the phrase "fixed beam."

In Europe a fixed beam IS semi independent. In America a fixed beam often means something entirely different, which happens to be non-independent.

Ironically probably THE most popular way to make a Clio quicker around a corner involves making the rear much less independent and more "fixed" in roll (whiteline arb, pms strengthening kit & 500lb/inch springs all aim to do this...)

In most cars disc hubs are generally wider than drum hubs anyway so more prop from that..

Lol not really just I grew up on older cars where thay did have fixed rear axles and newer cars such as clios fiestas have whats called a twist beam not fixed rear alxe (or solid rear beam).

Im not taken the mick or anything like that even fiesta boys call them fixed rear axles, Same goes for the torque link which in clio world is called a dog bone (f**k knows why lol) just theres correct names then theres car world names which change from one car make to the next but really all means the same thing but does f**k someone up when thay uses there correct names lol...

Im slowly learning all the clio names for things though lol......

its called a dog bone because it look's like a dog bone.

The mk2 is a twist rear beam. But unlike the mk1, they don't have a torsion bar as they uses springs instead.

Yeah finally worked out thay have a twist beam lol, Right that's confusing lol, Do you mean "Mk1's have a torsion bar instead of springs" ie same torsion beam fitted to saxo's?

yeah, mk1's use a torsion bar - no springs. Mk2/3/4 use springs.

good thing about that on the mk1 was you could lower them to suit your needs really easy. I could never get both sides to sit equal though, one was always a 1cm or so higher
