Clio remote fob

  CLIO 1.2
Have a 1.2 clio 2001 16v and neither of the two keys will remotely unlock the car. The light does not operate on either key, so I took them apart and found the switch missing from one of them.

As the keys still works with the immobiliser, I am thinking that the cheap answer may be to purchase an after market remote central locking upgrade kit from ebay, the ones that are used to turn key operated locking into remote.

I am thinking this will be a lot cheaper than replacement fobs from Renault, what do you think? anyone see any problems when I try to wire this in?

I had a somewhat similar situation, first off my central locking button stopped working as you said yours had, so I proceeded to use the key in the drivers door lock (I have a non sport so have both sides with locks). Then, with the french locks being made of chocolate it wasnt long before the key just started spinning in the drivers lock, so I had to start unlocking from the passenger side, but then the same started to happen again, and for a week i had to resort to getting in through the boot, at this point I had an alarm fitted which could also open the doors at a total cost of £170 fitted. Until yesterday I had no problems with it, and its fine again now.

So in answer to your question yes it is often easier to fit an after market solution. But in response to getting one from ebay and trying it yourself, I also tried this, and failed, hard.

Cheers for that, sound like I better get something done before the locks wear out, will consult the haynes manual as to the central locking and see how difficult it looks.
